Legacy Modernization Project Overview

Legacy Side (Old System):
The old system was built on Java EE / J2EE with Servlets JSP and deployed only on WebLogic.
It used monolithic architecture meaning all modules were tightly coupled.
Business logic was mixed with presentation code making changes slow and risky.
Limited API support most integrations were point-to-point.

Modernization (New Side):

We are modernizing by building backend APIs using Java 8 Spring Framework and JPA/Hibernate.
The project is still WAR-based (for WebLogic) but structured cleanly with Maven modules.
RESTful services are being developed to expose business functions.
Profiles (-Denvdev) and Spring profiles are used for environment-specific configs.
The frontend is being modernized separately using Angular (integrating with backend APIs).
Eventually this prepares the app for migration to Spring Boot Microservices in future phases.

Tools & Deployment:

Maven for build & dependency management.
WAR deployment to WebLogic (via WinSCP Admin Console).
Local dev in Eclipse/STS source control in Git/Bitbucket.
Testing via JUnit tracking in Jira/Confluence.
