Purpose of the Position
The Media Communications Officer is responsible for developing and delivering effective communications and content solutions to support EMACs advocacy strategic priorities and doing so the role will keep our community (our members and non-member Native Title rights holders) and stakeholders up to date and informed and raise the local national and international profile of EMAC.
The Media and Communications Officer works closely with all divisions of EMAC to manage a broad range of communication services and materials and provide advice and support on a range of communication activities. This includes developing communication strategies and managing key messaging for print materials media campaigns marketing and events.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Key duties include:
Communications
Act as a central point of contact and/or assist in the development of key publications communications and marketing materials including but not limited to Newsletters social media platforms website strategies discussion papers and media releases.
Develop and maintain EMACs media and social media strategies.
Develop and implement communication plans with project managers within EMAC.
Collaborate internally to provide advice and assistance regarding communications planning and implementation.
Develop a style guide for EMAC including providing training and assistance to EMAC employees for brand consistency.
Administer EMACs social media sites and websites.
Media
Maintain and build relationships with key media stakeholders and journalists.
Prepare reactive and proactive media releases.
Support the CEO and others for media interviews and public speaking engagements.
Evaluation and Monitoring
Conduct regular reviews and reporting on analytics data for key communication activities.
Contribute to the annual review of EMACs communications strategies and plans.
Organization
Build and maintain effective relationships within EMAC and externally with a broad range of stakeholders.
Represent EMAC on key stakeholder committees and groups and contribute to relevant committee and governance processes.
Be aware and adhere to The Privacy Act OH & S Legislation and other relevant legislations.
Be aware and adhere to EMAC Policy and Procedure manuals.
Be aware and participate in staff performance reviews.
Attend all mandatory training as required.
Perform other duties as may be directed or implied from time to time.
Key Selection Criteria Essential
The key selection criteria specified below outline the capabilities required for the position.
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
Excellent information technology skills and demonstrated ability to use multiple social media platforms for effective communications.
Sound knowledge of both online and print media tools and methods to support effective communications and engagement including writing for the web usability and accessibility.
Demonstrated experience in providing advice and assistance to project teams and other team members building internal capability with regard to media and communications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to distil complex messaging into accessible language.
Experience and capacity to manage relationships sensitively and effectively with a diverse stakeholder group including EMAC staff Eastern Maar community members and the public.
Key Selection Criteria Desirable
Strong understanding of the importance of Country to Traditional Owners recognising the Eastern Maar Peoples as the Traditional Owners of the south-west region of Victoria.
Ability to communicate respectfully sensitively and effectively with Eastern Maar citizens as well as all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Commitment to and appreciation of Eastern Maar culture values perspectives and heritage including the impacts of colonisation and the importance of cultural continuity.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal self-determination supporting the aspirations of the Eastern Maar community.
Other position requirements
Holder of a Working with Children Check
Holder of a Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
Undertaken a National Police Check for Employment Purposes within the last 3 months
Completing work outside of the general working week and hours may be required from time to time.
