HORIBA Instruments Incorporated is looking for the ideal individual to join our team as Cost Accountant at our corporate headquarters in Irvine CA.

Key Responsibilities include:

Cost Monitoring & Analysis

  • Monitor collect update analyze summarize and evaluate cost-related information.
  • Develop and maintain cost models for pricing and profitability analysis.
  • Conduct Work-in-Progress (WIP) Analysis to monitor and evaluate costs associated with unfinished goods ensuring accurate allocation of labor materials and overhead to WIP inventory.
  • Perform Purchase Price Variance (PPV) Analysis to assess and explain the differences between actual and standard purchase costs identifying reasons for variances and recommending corrective actions.

Inventory & Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) Management

  • Maintain sub-ledger activities including inventory work-in-progress (WIP) and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Partner with Warehouse/Inventory Control on cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Work with Supply Chain to reduce aged and obsolete inventory.
  • Analyze and maintain inventory valuation and cost fluctuations.
  • Review monthly inventory details to identify excess/obsolete items and record related journal entries (e.g. maintaining E&O reserve).
  • Compile analyze and communicate monthly scrap and shrinkage results by plant identifying areas for scrap reduction.

Financial Close & Reporting

  • Assist with the monthly financial close process ensuring accuracy in system-generated transactions and manual entries.
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for month-end close.
  • Assist in preparing month-end and year-end reports including inventory reconciliations journal entries and cost of goods sold analysis.
  • Manage SAP FICO close processes.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Provide full support during company financial audits and respond to internal/external audit requests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing supply chain procurement etc.) to address issues and optimize processes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform various ad hoc financial reports and analyses as needed.
  • Responsibly manage customer issues responding promptly and honoring commitments.
  • Adapt to unexpected changes in situations or circumstances.

Key Qualifications and Competencies include:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting
  • 5 years of job-related work experience.
  • Expertise in SAP FICO and financial close processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP PivotTable SUMIF) and financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
  • Professionalism: Approaches others tactfully reacts well under pressure accepts responsibility and follows through on commitments.

  • Communication: Speaks persuasively listens actively responds well to questions and participates effectively in meetings.

Compensation Package:

HORIBA Instruments Incorporated offers a competitive compensation package that includes a 401(k) plan with match; employee group dental vision life and disability (short and long-term) paid for by the company; medical insurance family dental and vision insurance and supplemental life insurance available with reasonable employee contributions; employee assistance program; paid holidays vacation and sick time; flexible spending accounts; and educational reimbursement and commuter benefit programs. Qualified candidates can expect to earn between $85k - $108K in this role depending on experience.
