Summary:The Old Town School of Folk Music seeks a part-time fiddle instructor to teach kids group classes at its Lincoln Square and Lincoln Park locations. This candidate will provide engaging instruction incorporating folk-style teaching based on global folk traditions to help students of various ages and skill levels develop their technique musicality and repertoire in a group setting.
Schedule:Weekends mornings afternoons; less than 5 hours per week with potential for additional hours
Location:Lincoln Square and Lincoln Park
Duties:
Work with children parents and caregivers to create a positive classroom environment.
Collaborate with colleagues on student showcases and performances.
Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Creating lesson plans guided by our curriculum and training.
Handle administrative tasks and maintain interdepartmental communications as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Music Education or Performance preferred
Minimum two years of group teaching experience preferred
Experience teaching fiddle in a folk style with the ability to engage students of different ages and levels from beginners to advanced
Knowledge of the Suzuki method of teaching
High level of musicianship and personal responsibility
Weekend morning and after-school availability required
Ability to teach children ages 2 to 13
Instructor Hourly Pay Rate: $37/hour

Chicagos Old Town School of Folk Music (OTSFM) is the largest community school of the arts in the U.S. and a non-profit organization committed to celebrating American music and global cultures. Founded in 1957 Old Town School provides various music dance and arts courses to people of all ages abilities and backgrounds. Whatever ones interest Old Town School provides broad access to more than 700 weekly class offerings a broad array of private lessons and over 400 concerts and community events per year.
Old Town School of Folk Music opened its Lincoln Square facility in 1998 and expanded in 2012. The Old Town School operates two campuses in Chicagos Lincoln Square and Lincoln Park neighborhoods including world-class concert halls classrooms an award-winning music store and a music resource center. Online classes were introduced in 2020 and students from nearly every state and a dozen countries participated throughout the pandemic.
