The Opportunity:
As the Writing Center Director you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations training and development of the Undergraduate and Graduate Writing Centers atWSU. While under the direction of theWriting Program Directoryou will play a central role in managing programs that support student writing success including supervising student employees coordinating writing support initiatives and maintaining operational logistics and assessment practices.Your role is crucial in enhancing student writing skills and fostering collaboration across various university departments. Work schedule is required to be in person on theWSUPullman WA campus 5 days per week (Monday Friday) and an opportunity for a hybrid schedule during the summer months.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative and Operations: 35%
Staff Supervision and Program Coordination: 30%
Instruction and Training: 20%
Assessment Outreach and Professional Engagement: 10%
Other Duties as Assigned: 5%
Additional Information:
This is a full time (100% FTE) permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $4942.10 - $6943.00 Commesurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position. Required Qualifications:
A Bachelors degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Masters degree and one year of experience in teaching academic support writing centers or student services.
Demonstrated experience in mentoring tutoring or teaching.
Experience supervising or managing student employees or teams.
Strong written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD degree in Writing Studies Rhetoric/Composition English Education or related field.
Experience teaching or working in higher education writing centers or learning commons.
Familiarity with writing center theory peer tutoring and multilingual student support.
Experience with educational technology platforms including WCOnline Canvas or Zoom.
