Description

The Graduate Research Appointment (GRA) is a post-baccalaureate appointment for participants with an interest in biomedical research. The primary purpose is to provide a post-baccalaureate laboratory research experience that applies skills in science technology engineering or math to biomedical research including basic science or translational research. GRA participants will have the opportunity to participate in selected graduate classes and seminars while working in this role.

Limited tenure one-year position with the option to extend for a second year.

Responsibilities

The research group led by Dr. Suman Bose is currently seeking applicants for a Graduate Research Appointment position available immediately. The selected candidate will engage in a highly interdisciplinary project focused on ex-vivo regeneration of liver. This project integrates bioengineering regenerative medicine immunology and pre-clinical testing. This opportunity is ideal for recent graduates aiming to acquire 1-2 years of rigorous research experience in an interdisciplinary field that merges engineering with translational research contributing to journal publications.

The role will involve the following:

  • Animal work (mice and rats) including survival surgeries regular bleeding imaging euthanasia and necropsy.
  • Build and operate ex-vivo perfusion platform collect and report sensor data monitor organ health and perform intervention as necessary
  • Maintains mammalian cell lines and perform biomolecular assays (ELISA qPCR western blots and others)
  • Manage inventory of common lab supplies and equipment maintenance.
  • Assists postdocs in their activity as required to complete grant milestones
  • Works under postdoc supervision but may perform some assignments independently as approved by Principal Investigator.
  • Organizes data and performs basic statistical data analysis. Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to the writing of manuscripts.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree with a strong background in science technology engineering or math. Authorization to work and remain in the United States without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now or in the future (for example be a U.S. citizen national or permanent resident refugee or asylee.

Students that do not meet these criteria do not qualify.

  • Applicants who are currently in Graduate or Medical School are not eligible.
  • Eligibility of applicants with advanced degrees above BA or BS depend on the specific degree

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in life sciences engineering or Chemical or a related field
  • Experience with animal work (mice or rats)
  • 1 year of wet lab experience in biology or biomedical engineering
