Operations & Facilities Department

Full Time In-Person Oakland CA

Safe Passages disrupts the cycle of poverty by engaging youth and families to build and drive a continuum of services that supports student success and community development.

Safe Passages is a non-profit organization committed to disrupting the cycle of poverty by supporting our local community. We serve over 5000 children and families annually through our strategies that span across the life spectrum of birth through young adulthood including Early Childhood School Linked Services Juvenile Justice and Career Pathways. Safe Passages work is based on the premises that access to educational opportunity health services and family support should not be dictated by race or socio-economic status and that healthy and supported youth are better prepared to learn and succeed.

Essential Functions:

The following are the duties performed by employees in this some cases employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.

Security Patrol & Surveillance:

  • Monitor entrances and exits verify identification and authorization and prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.

  • Conduct routine patrols of the interior and exterior of the premises to identify potential safety or security risks and deter inappropriate or criminal activity.

  • Serve as a visible and approachable presence for staff youth and families. Provide guidance and assistance in a respectful and culturally responsive manner.

  • Partner with front desk facilities and emergency personnel to maintain an effective and unified approach to campus safety.

  • Monitor and ensure functionality of security systems including cameras and alarms reporting malfunctions or required maintenance promptly.

Emergency Response & Safety Preparedness:

  • Respond promptly to alarms disturbances and emergency situations including fire medical or behavioral crises and coordinate with emergency responders when needed.

  • Lead and facilitate emergency preparedness activities including fire lockdown earthquake and evacuation drills for staff.

  • Utilize non-violent conflict resolution and self-defense strategies when necessary.

  • Document detailed reports on any incidents or accidents and follow up with required reporting entities based on local state and federal mandates. Conduct investigations/inspections in the workplace and implement training/policies as needed related to safety and security issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Security Guard card/certification

  • Current CPR certification

  • Current EMT certification desired

  • Training and proficiency in self-defense and de-escalation techniques

  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety drills (fire lockdown evacuation earthquake etc.)

  • Experience working with youth and individuals from marginalized or culturally diverse backgrounds

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and a commitment to cultural responsiveness

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the US

  • Full COVID-19 vaccine; TB test within the last 3 years

  • Valid US Drivers License and a reliable vehicle

Education:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Preferred: Some college coursework or a degree in a related field (Criminal Justice Social Work Psychology etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a security school community center or nonprofit setting

  • Bilingual or multilingual capabilities

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and local emergency response protocols

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 10:00 AM 6:00 PM with the exception of some weekends and hours outside of the regular schedule as needed

Compensation: $45760 to $52000 ($22-$25 per hour); Full-Time (based on 40 hours per week) Benefits
