Description

Job Summary: The Athletic Complex Custodial Specialist is responsible for the general cleaning event support and routine maintenance at an assigned location of the campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Refills restroom dispensers. Anticipates usage to prevent empty dispensers during a buildings normal occupancy hours.
  • Cleans dusts and wipes furniture.
  • Vacuums carpets area rugs and walk off mats sweeps mops or vacuums floors.
  • Empties/cleans interior and/or exterior wastebaskets and trash containers; replaces liners in wastebaskets and containers.
  • Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds
  • Sweeps/ or blows exterior entryways
  • Cleans and sanitizes equipment.
  • Assists with the setup of facilities
  • Ensures that kitchens and/or food preparation areas are clean and sanitized before and after use.
  • Uses ladders or step stools when required in work assignments.
  • Performs Preventative/Summer Maintenance
  • Performs routine inspections of exit and emergency lighting and fire extinguishers.
  • Performs minor maintenance
  • Performs routine maintenance task such as unplugging toilets changing light bulbs replacing ceiling tiles etc.
  • Follows specified procedures of cleaning assigned building areas; restrooms common areas locker rooms bleachers
  • Locks and unlocks assigned buildings if directed. Turns off lights and secures building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows; reports any unauthorized occupants.
  • Moves furniture equipment supplies and tools as needed to perform job duties.
  • Arranges furniture and equipment
  • Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies and uses only as directed.
  • Washes accessible interior and exterior windows. Cleans blinds or other window treatment types. May be asked to launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
  • Attends to custodial related emergencies when necessary or as requested. For example water cleanup extraction storm cleanup etc.
  • Attends safety meetings department meetings classes and other related meetings. For example the employee may receive training in e.g. cleaning methods and techniques new products Blood Borne Pathogens First Aid CPR and working relationships.
  • Supports and enforces all policies university and governmental such as One Call OSHA rules university health and safety regulations and guidelines etc.
  • Handles recycling materials and disposes of them in their designated place.
  • Calls in/reports all work orders as needed in assigned area(s).
  • Assists with inventory control and security.
  • Washes and/or cleans interior wall spaces as needed to remove dirt handprints etc.
  • Collects and places in containers or plastic bags all trash and debris and place the trash in an assigned collection area (dumpsters or trash carts) for removal by sanitation.
  • remove gum residue in interior/exterior entry ways.
  • May assist in snow removal and/or application of ice-melt in the immediate area of assigned location.
  • Performs floor maintenance activities
  • Develops a working relationship with the specific building location manager (s) and responds to request and direction as related to building operations and events. The employee must communicate effectively with this individual(s) and is under this location manager(s) general daily supervision.
  • Acknowledges and interacts directly with faculty staff and students to ensure a safe clean and friendly environment.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as necessary assigned or as requested. Supports other Facility Services personnel when requested. May be assigned other assigned duties in other campus locations.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills Required:

Individuals must possess the following knowledge skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Familiarity with or sincere interest in learning about the mission of MidAmerica Nazarene University and the meaning of a Christian education.
  • Knowledge of basic principles theories and safe practices of industrial housekeeping and cleaning.
  • Willingness to stay abreast of changing technology and to keep knowledge and skills current.
  • Abilities and capabilities in speaking comprehension memory attention to detail calculating evaluating mathematics organizing and innovation.
  • Ability to analyze troubleshoot and correct problems.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift push and pull a variety of tools and equipment utilizing safe industry practices.
  • Ability to perform minor building maintenance tasks.
  • Willingness to learn how to perform minor building maintenance tasks safely and correctly.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds utilizing safe industry practices.
  • Ability to work within an industry that may face on a routine basis dust dirt cleaning solutions or other common materials encountered during the performance of duties.
  • Willingness to correctly and efficiently perform hands-on tasks.
  • Ability to interact in a courteous manner with faculty staff and students as necessary or as requested.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the Custodial Supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as may be required from time to time for game coverage
  • Willingness to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation

Education and/or Experience:

  • Possession of an earned high school diploma GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Preference for at least one year of experience in general cleaning and janitorial services/ custodial practices.
  • Valid motor vehicle license is preferred but not required and subject to approval from the Universitys automobile insurance carrier.
