K-12 Education Outreach Coordinator Part-Time
Overview:
The Education and Guest Services Division at George Washingtons Mount Vernon provides meaningful learning opportunities for Mount Vernons one million annual visitors and students in classrooms around the country. Through a diverse portfolio of interpretive experiences engaging public programs and online resources we expand each learners understanding of and relevance of George Washington and the world in which he lived.
The K-12 Education Department is designed to ensure that Mount Vernon is focused on creating and providing the best learning experiences available to formal classroom teachers and students around the country. The K-12 department plays a major role in reaching teachers and students by creating quality digitally accessible classroom resources providing hiqh-quality student learning experiences onsite and online and designing and facilitating immersive teacher professional development programs.
The K-12 Education Outreach Coordinator is a key member of the K-12 Education team who ensures Mount Vernons mission supports teachers and students in formal classroom settings through high-quality digital and place-based learning experiences around the country. The Coordinator will support a diverse range of logistics communication facilitation and evaluation of all teacher and student learning outreach programs events and initiatives. Compensation: $20.00/hour Expected Hours: 24-32 hours/week not to exceed 1550 hours/year
Position-Specific Responsibilities: - Support the Director of K-12 Education with complex long and short-term logistics including:
- Gathering organizing and tracking data files forms orders registrations and a variety of additional program information.
- Assist in program implementation including setting up greeting speakers guiding groups and other hosting duties in both on-site and online environments.
- Communicate regularly with staff participants outside vendors and external partners via phone email and other digital platforms to support the continuity of varied logistics.
- Preparing distributing or mailing printed resources promotional items supplies and other program materials.

for the following student learning outreach initiatives: - Virtual K-12 classroom programs for students
- Student of the Year Award
- Onsite signature student programs
- Develop a network of stakeholders through research outreach and continued communication with potential museums state departments of education school districts community partners and/or cultural partners who align with and/or would benefit from K-12 program outcomes.
- Co-develop and review K-12 promotional materials including copy and graphics for e-newsletters social media posts and digital and print flyers during monthly and yearly cycles.
- Stay current on teacher and student learning trends in history civics and interrelated subjects and represent Mount Vernon in national conversations about K12 classrooms and student learning at a variety of in-person and/or digital conferences and programs at the district state and national levels (approximately 3 times/year).
- Support institutional evaluation efforts to gain a research-based understanding of teacher and student needs and connections to Mount Vernons mission as it relates to our education mission.
Qualifications and Requirements: The successful candidate will have:
- Bachelors degree and/or combined experience in formal and/or informal education museum studies museum education history public history or related fields.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills to foster effective collaboration with various stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using computer software and cloud-based applications including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace video conferencing platforms and the ability and self-confidence to troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
- Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to track multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workload.
- Skilled in written communication including editing and oral communication demonstrated in an education or training environment.
Special Requirements: The successful candidate will: - Be a motivated self-starter who displays a high level of responsibility accountability and initiative.
- Have basic knowledge of current trends and effective practices in education history education and education policies.
- Have the ability and flexibility to work intermittent non-traditional hours work remotely from various locations and travel across the U.S. to plan host and facilitate programming.
*Please note - this is an onsite position and only requires remote work when necessary for programming/outreach.
Division-Wide Principles: The Education and Guest Services team is composed of the Interpretation Historic Trades Guest Services and Education Departments. This group is comprised of more than 150 fulland part-time staff members who use onsite and offsite programming and physical and digital projects to connect Mount Vernons mission to a variety of audiences. - Exceed audience learning expectations and ensure a level of access in which everyone is welcome. Work Environment: This position operates primarily in a professional office setting. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers and filing cabinets. The work environment is generally quiet with occasional interruptions. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods talk hear and use hands to type or handle objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Visual acuity to read and interpret documents and computer screens is required.
