Job Summary
The Office of the CIO (OCIO) has an extensive list of investment requests for IT enabled projects from across the University. The execution of the portfolio of projects extends out over at least the next five years and new projects are being added to the pipeline on a regular basis. The execution of each project within the portfolio is approximately one year and the resources from each project will transition from one project to next upon completion of the delivery of each project. These projects will be managed within the Program Delivery office. The Program Delivery office is seeking a Business Analyst II.
The Business Analyst II analyzes business needs and develops overall strategies for how automated systems can be used to support the short- and long-term direction of the business.
The Business Analyst II provides expertise in the areas of business process discovery and definition requirements definition analysis and design configuration implementation testing training facilitation and documentation to deliver enterprise solutions to the UBC community. The Business Analyst II will own and drive the business analysis process. The role is a key link between the technical team Process Excellence and business stakeholders to ensure effective solutions are delivered which drive meaningful and measurable business value. The candidate would also support the facilitation of discovery sessions across multiple teams and business units and lead the adoption / implementation activities associated with new solutions within the business.
The Business Analyst II will work on multiple agile project teams from intake to deployment by conducting process analysis and design planning test supporting user acceptance test and preparing for client operational support. The candidate liaises with technical and functional staff throughout UBC and externally to other Universities agencies and partners to facilitate effective solutions that meet requirements.

Information Technology plays a key role in enabling the University to achieve its goal of becoming one of the worlds leading universities. The Business Analyst II plays a significant role in the implementation of enterprise-wide systems and processes. Should these projects not be completed successfully or the results not support the activities of the University this would compromise the Universitys ability to achieve its strategic goals and vision. Inability of systems and processes to support the Universitys needs could seriously compromise daily business and activities at the University.
This position must assume responsibility for business requirement decisions that could have significant financial impact on the University. This position must be able to foresee potential problems before they occur and take corrective action.
Supervision Received
The Business Analyst II works within the project team that consists of Senior Business Analysts Developers functional experts and other project specialists and reports directly to the Senior Project Manager while working closely with senior leadership and staff in other administrative and academic units.
Supervision Given
In general provides coaching and mentoring to new team members on the project related to system implementation and provides leadership and education to other staff in UBC IT and client departments on demonstrated areas of expertise. May supervise work of other business analysts on a project.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
