The Recreation Van Trip Specialist is responsible for planning organizing and leading recreational van-based trips and outdoor activities for individuals and groups. This role blends logistics customer service and recreation programming to deliver safe engaging and memorable experiences. The specialist ensures all aspects of the tripfrom transportation and equipment to activities and safetyare well-coordinated and executed. The ideal candidate is friendly supportive and professional.
This is a Stipend Position. State law requires that the applicant selected for the position must complete the fingerprint process to check for or verify conviction record; TB test clearance is also required. A clean driving record is also required.
Hours and Schedule:
- Hours and schedule vary depending on the planning and execution of each trip.
- Additional hours are available when necessary.
- May include nights and weekends as necessary.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
TheRecreation Van Trip Specialist is expected to work effectively under minimal supervision from the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Coordinatorand work within a framework of standard District policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:
- Design and schedule van-based recreational trips including outdoor excursions field trips and community events.
- Assess participant needs and interests to tailor trip experiences.
- Coordinate routes stops accommodations and activity logistics.
- Lead and supervise recreational activities such as hiking sightseeing games and educational outings.
- Ensure all activities are inclusive safe and engaging for diverse age groups and abilities.
- Load transport and set up gear for each trip.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols during trips.
- Maintain accurate records of trips attendance and equipment usage.
- Prepare reports and assist with budgeting and resource planning.
- Provide customer service support during the duration of the trip.
- Position may also perform other nonessential duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers participants and volunteers. Leadership and organizational skills. Ability to use independent judgment and take appropriate action to ensure participants and staffs safety. Ability to deal with emergencies and stressful situations.
- Minimum Education Required: must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Other requirements: State law requires all selected applicants 18 and over to be fingerprinted and pass a pre-employment background check. A TB test clearance is required for all selected applicants. Reliable transportation to and from work. First Aid/CPR/AED Training or willingness to complete/recertify. Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Licenses/Certification: Applicants must possess a valid California Drivers License (Class B or C) with a clean driving record. A pre-employment drug screening may be required.
Environmental Conditions:Outdoor recreational facilities; frequent public contact; exposure to sun heat wind rain and inclement weather. The schedule may vary.
Physical Conditions:
- Strength mobility and stamina to bend reach stretch stand kneel walk run stoop lift carry push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit stand walk long distances and driving for extended periods of time.
- Job involves 70% seating/standing and 30% walking or active movement.
- Must occasionally feel the attributes of objects by touch; maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling; and be able to walk climb stoop kneel crouch and stand.
- Strength mobility and stamina to perform various physical activities.
- Hearing and speech are adequate to communicate in person and over the phone.
- Vision adequate to operate a motor vehicle and read fine print.
- Manual dexterity to grasp and hold objects use fine manipulation write and operate the telephone.
- Frequently participates in physical activity in indoor and outdoor locations. Frequent monitoring of participants requiring the ability to detect and respond to emergencies and provide CPR or First Aid as required.
