GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a dedicated Highway Maintenance Supervisor II to join our team in Basin Wyoming. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of roadways structures and other properties within the district. You will ensure the effective efficient and safe use of the workforce equipment materials and facilities assigned to the maintenance addition to managing day-to-day operations this position plays a vital role in responding to emergencies including hazardous material incidents and natural disasters that impact Wyomings highways.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.


  • Identifies training needs of subordinate supervisors; ensures training is completed; may conduct training for subordinate supervisors and/or their assigned staff; develops performance plans with subordinate supervisors; participates in employee hiring firing disciplining coaching and development; maintains an effective workforce.
  • Oversees supervisors in scheduling and utilizing people materials equipment and resources to accomplish the core work required to accomplish WYDOTs mission.
  • Consolidates multiple and/or competing budget requests and makes related recommendations to upper management.
  • Collaborates with upper management to facilitate resolutions to issues.
  • Communicate with the public as necessary to facilitate a resolution to concerns.
  • Ensures that work is completed on time on budget safely and at acceptable quality levels.
  • Works with subordinate supervisors when there are issues with a project. This may involve facilitation coaching and coordination of communication.
  • Coordinates with district and state-wide counterparts to provide or request workforce and equipment in response to winter operations paving and other related tasks.
  • Oversees the allocation of appropriate motorized equipment to ensure that the job-assignment work can be accomplished in a timely and safe manner.
  • Works with utility companies landowners and other government entities on requests that affect the highway right-of-way.
  • Collaborates with the District Management Team to preserve all investments in roads bridges and appurtenances and ensure safety and mobility are provided to motorists and the public.
  • Utilize ERP to run reports to confirm fiscal accountability of assigned crews annual maintenance work plan.
  • Performs fieldwork as necessary to ensure assigned projects and snow removal operations are completed effectively and efficiently.
  • Responsible for Rest Area maintenance water samples and wastewater treatment requirements. Maintaining Rest Area standards according to current EPA and DEQ requirements.
  • Attends internal and external meetings to advise and consult on local maintenance.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference may be given to applicants with at least one year of supervisory experience with WYDOT.


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of operations of highway maintenance equipment planning scheduling and controlling work.
  • Knowledge of equipment operations and safety procedures to train new employees.
  • Knowledge of department policies concerning maintenance management systems manuals and standards traffic control safety practices and basic highway construction principles.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of state personnel rules.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written format to interdepartmental branches governmental agencies private industry and the general public.
  • Ability to efficiently schedule counsel and guide resources within the work unit.
  • Proficiently utilize the following: Agile Assets PeopleSoft Microsoft Suite and Google applications.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Management)
Experience:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Supervisor I
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Class A Commercial Drivers License

Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Supervisor I

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Individuals in this classification will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls at any time including nights weekends and holidays. Individuals must report to the shop within 30 minutes of receiving the call. Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply. Failure to be available for emergency work without an acceptable excuse will be grounds for immediate disciplinary action and possible dismissal.
  • Occasional use of manual and powered hand tools.
  • Daily use of motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
  • Frequent exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Ability to sit/stand and operate equipment for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds independently.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in adverse environmental conditions.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.

  • The applicant chosen must live in the areas covered by the Basin Cody Meeteetse or Lovell maintenance shops.
