Job Description Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Lean Intern to join our manufacturing operations team. This internship offers hands-on experience in Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies. The intern will play a key role in standardizing work processes supporting kaizen activities leading problem-solving activities and driving operational excellence across production lines.
*this role is 5 days a week onsite*

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Lean Intern to join our manufacturing operations team. This internship offers hands-on experience in Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies. The intern will play a key role in standardizing work processes supporting kaizen activities leading problem-solving activities and driving operational excellence across production lines.

Key Responsibilities

As a Lean Intern you will:

  • Conduct Time Studies: Observe and record cycle times for various operations to establish baseline data.
  • Document Standard Work: Create and maintain Standard Work Charts and Standard Work Combination Tables for multiple production lines.
  • Support Kaizen Events: Actively participate in at least one kaizen team contributing to problem-solving and improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and Implement Improvements: Analyze assigned areas for waste and inefficiencies propose solutions and assist in implementation.
  • Lead and Support Problem Solving: Facilitate and contribute to structured problem-solving efforts using Problem Solving Process (PSP) and A3 methodologies ensuring root causes are identified and countermeasures are effectively implemented.
  • Visual Management: Develop and update visual controls and performance boards to support daily management systems.
  • Engage with Operators: Collaborate with frontline team members to validate standard work and ensure sustainability of improvements.
  • Support 5S Initiatives: Assist in organizing workspaces and maintaining cleanliness and order through 5S audits and improvements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering Manufacturing Engineering Operations Management or related field.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • At least Sophomore standing at the time of application
  • Must be returning to school at the conclusion of the internship
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Lean tools such as 5S Standard Work Value Stream Mapping and PDCA.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel PowerPoint and data visualization tools.
