Job Description
The Desert Research Institutes STEM Education Program is seeking a STEM Education Assistant in Reno Nevada. This position will support the STEM Education Program with a focus on supporting the Outreach Events for our program. Specifically this position would support the day-to-day upkeep of the STEM Co-Lab (an educator training facility and lending library) STEM demonstration area assist with preparation and participate in STEM Education community outreach events. Tasks may include upkeep of STEM Co-Lab education supplies and materials developing supplemental materials attending outreach events supporting educator professional development events and promoting programming through social media.
This position does require periodic regional travel for weekend and evening events. The successful candidate must have their own vehicle available and be willing to travel to DRI and other locations as needed (mileage is reimbursed). This position is located in Reno NV.
The following tasks will be required for this position:
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid Drivers License and satisfactory driving record
Insurance on incumbents vehicle
Strong interest in working with PreK-12 grade students educators and community members
Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Google Suite programs and Canva
Ability to work independently and maintain responsibility for individual work
Excellent interpersonal teamwork and communication skills
Highly organized with an attention to detail
Availability to work evenings and weekends
Bilingual- Spanish and English
Student pursing a degree in education communications psychology family sciences or related topics
Experience working with inventory
Experience working with PreK-12 students educators or non-profit organizations
Knowledge of graphic design program to create flyers or presentations
$17.20
20 hours per week
Periodic weekend and evening events
Periodic paid regional travel
This position will need to preform physical tasks such as lifting objects up to 60lbs stooping bending kneeling or standing for long periods of time.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
If enrolled at NSHE institution for 2025-2026 school year students must carry at least 6 credits to be considered a student worker.
Employment is contingent upon the incumbent providing a copy of their DMV driving record valid drivers license and vehicle insurance.
An incumbent is not eligible for employment due to an unsatisfactory driving record. Examples of unacceptable infractions include but are not limited to:
Suspended or revoked license.
Three or more moving violations in the past 36 months.
Any violations involving drugs alcohol controlled substances etc. withing the past 24 months.
Leaving the scene of an accident within the past 24 months.
Reckless driving within the past 24 months.
At fault in an accident resulting in a fatality or serious injury within the past five years.
