Description:
Under the direction of the Senior Dispatch Systems Administrator and Communications Director is responsible for assisting with the design development installation and management of the telecommunications systems in the Communications Center. Assists with installation maintenance and operation of radio computer and 911 telephone systems. Interacts with other divisions and departments to support the mission of the Communications Center.
This position requires technical ability analytical and decision-making skills and the ability to work without supervision.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Must be certified (or be able to complete certifications) as a Spillman Application Administrator.
Preferably five (5) years of responsible work related to public safety technology including radio computer and telephone experience.
Must possess a valid drivers license.
Must be able to perform moderate physical activity to push pull or lift at least fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to get in and out of vehicles repeatedly.
Responsibilities:
Under general supervision of the Senior Dispatch Systems Administrator plans and implements system expansions and upgrades. Performs inventories of computer hardware and software assets. Evaluates new hardware and software for compatibility with existing systems and makes recommendations to supervisors. Performs PC and server upgrades. Configures and installs computer hardware including PC workstations printers copiers network cabling switches and servers in a network environment. Installs and configures software applications on dispatch PC and server equipment.
Responsible for managing the internal dispatch web site and backup site. Maintains access controls content and updates to the site as requested by dispatch supervisors. Follows through with requests from dispatch personnel to add or remove content as needed. Assures web site server equipment is maintained and replaced when needed.
Manages the installation and maintenance of dispatch-related computer equipment including servers workstations PCs monitors and ancillary equipment.
Supports the citys IT department and coordinates purchases and upgrades of hardware and software through them.
Assists with the administration of the FLEX records management system as needed. Assures that system interfaces data backups and network equipment are managed maintained and repaired when needed.
Administers distribution and installation of FLEX client software to public safety agencies and assures that network routes VPN tunnels and VPN software is functioning correctly. Assists other agencies with troubleshooting of software hardware and network issues related to the FLEX RMS system.
Responsible for assisting with the installation management and maintenance of the county-wide 700 MHz P25 and VHF public safety radio systems. Helps with installation and maintenance of site equipment radio towers antennas base stations repeaters and other electronic equipment. Assists with the maintenance and operation of microwave radio equipment UPS and power generation equipment and remote monitoring equipment when needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of MS Windows Operating Systems
Knowledge of MS Server Operating Systems
Knowledge of web design and programming
Knowledge of computer system hardware and software systems including PC and server systems
Knowledge of TCP/IP and other network protocols
Skill in setting up and installation of computer hardware and software
Skill in troubleshooting and repairing computer systems and networks
Knowledge of the FLEX records management system and ability to receive and maintain certifications
Knowledge of Motorola 700 MHz P25 Trunked Radio and Console Systems
Knowledge of VHF radio systems equipment and design
Knowledge of microwave radio UPS and power generation systems and remote monitoring systems
Experience in a Public Safety environment is highly preferred.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.
Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records and prepare and present written and oral reports and recommendations.
Ability to analyze complex information evaluate alternatives and make appropriate recommendations and implement solutions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
