Position Title: Residential Aide Coordinator The Aston

Reports To: Assistant Director The Aston

Classification: Full-Time Hourly (Non-Exempt); Essential

Location: NW Washington DC 20037

Hours: Monday-Friday between 9 am and 5 pm some evenings holidays or weekends may be required to report to emergencies some overtime may be required.

Summary of Position: The Aston is a newly developed non-congregate shelter serving single adults and adult households without children experiencing homelessness in the District of Columbia. The Aston has the capacity to serve up to 190 residents with a variety of shelter bed environments including medically vulnerable and medical respite beds work beds beds for seniors ADA beds and beds for couples and families with non-minor dependents. All residents of The Aston are matched through the Coordinated Assessment and Housing Placement (CAHP) system and are targeted to enter stable housing destinations within 3-6 months of program entry. The Residential Aide Coordinator (RAC) is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and service delivery of Residential Aides across all shifts by providing supervision and ensuring the shift scheduling of Residential Aides and Shift Supervisor to ensure 24/7 coverage. Additionally the position will serve as a Shift Supervisory across various shifts to support engagement with all Residential Aides and provide emergency coverage if other Residential Aides or Shift Supervisors are unable to.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision and performance management of Residential Aides
  • Creates the monthly schedules for Shift Supervisors and Residential Aides to ensure 24/7 coverage and submits to Assistant Director for approval.
  • Serves as designated Shift Supervisor during scheduled shifts and provides emergency shift coverage for Residential Aides or Shift Supervisors if no coverage is found.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director to ensure that all Residential Aides and Shift Supervisors meet contractual background checks and training requirements.
  • Provide shift supervision to assigned Residential Aides to ensure smooth execution of program responsibilities support services and operations.
  • Provides appropriate support and oversight of residents; supports and reinforces program policies and rules.
  • Provides an efficient and safe working environment for residents employees and visitors to The Aston.
  • Conducts and supports intake processes for newly assigned residents to The Aston; Explains program rules rights and responsibilities building procedures/schedule and unit assignments.
  • Ensures a shift log is maintained to record all activities and information regarding scheduled shifts.
  • Provides de-escalation services to residents and contacts crisis services (MPD Mobile Crisis CRT etc.) as necessary.
  • Serves as primary point-of-contact for security janitorial and food vendors during the shift.
  • Ensures appropriate noise levels within the building and enforces guidelines for quiet hours (overnight)
  • Ensures that all Residential Aides always remain awake and alert on shift.
  • Monitors and ensures the completion of required unit inspections on each shift; gathers and files documentation for required reporting.
  • Reports and documents maintenance and building concerns to the Assistant Director
  • Ensures detailed completion and submission of all Unusual Incident Reports (UIR) or Critical Incident Reports (CIR) in the required timeframe during each shift.
  • Coordinates the delivery distribution storage and disposal of meal deliveries.
  • Distributes residential supplies and support to residents as available (cleaning hygiene laundry bedding etc.).Build trusting relationships with participants and respond with empathy and flexibility to foster wellness independence and service delivery
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings supervision and actively seek out professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate professionally and clearly in all interactionsboth written and verbalto support seamless service delivery and collaboration
  • Demonstrate integrity cultural responsiveness and mission alignment in a fast-paced equity-driven environment
  • Maintains compliance in all assigned mandatory training and background clearances.
  • Provide supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness with serious mental illnesses addictions medical concerns etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program and its participants
Requirements

Education/Experience Requirement

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a residential or shelter setting is required.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership is required.
  • Prior relevant work experience in human or homeless services psychiatric rehabilitation additions poverty foster care mental health youth/young adults LGBTQIA people and/or other individuals from historically marginalized communities strongly preferred.

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Must have or be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR/AED certification that includes a hands-on skills testing module. Friendship Place will provide First Aid/CPR/AED training

Working conditions: The office is located in an apartment building and exposed to conditions that arise in homes including occasionally biohazards (e.g. blood tissue human waste) and conflict.


Physical and Environmental Requirements: The position will alternate between office/desk settings and roving the occupied floors and grounds of The Aston. The position will view the security camera and footage. The candidate must be able to lift 25 lbs. The candidate will be walking 70% of the time bending at the knees and standing for extended periods of time. Staff will interact with participants who have a history of experiencing homelessness


Background Checks: This position is classified as Safety Sensitive under DHS. The selected candidate will be required to complete and pass background checks specific to contract requirements that may include criminal history background check and fingerprinting FBI Background Check DC Metropolitan Police Background Check State-of-Residence Police Background Check DC Child Abuse Registry (CFSA) National Sex Offender Registry Check Drug Panel and Alcohol Screening Tuberculosis Test and Driving Record check (for positions transporting participants). Reference checks and verification of current and/or previous employment are required.

Specific Requirements: The employee must have a valid government-issued ID and have reliable transportation to arrive at the worksite on time.

Compensation: The hiring pay range is between $20.64 - $24.04 hourly. The starting hourly rate is based on a step system. A candidates starting pay determination is made based on meeting the basic position requirements and current completed education credentials and work experience. Please Note: The step system is set and not open to pay negotiation.
