The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a full-time Volunteer Coordinator to recruit train and manage our community of amazing volunteers to expand our reach and deepen our mission impact. The Volunteer Coordinator supports volunteers at our Ozaukee Campus and reports to the Director of Volunteer Programs. Key accountabilities:

  • Recruit onboard and coordinate training and scheduling for volunteers.
  • Review applications and communicate any next steps with potential volunteers.
  • Responding to public inquiries about the volunteer program.
  • Ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for volunteers that keeps them connected with our organization and mission.
  • Provide ongoing support for volunteers including ongoing training and refreshers coaching and feedback communication and volunteer recognition.
  • Build and maintain strong interdepartmental relationships to support volunteer needs including developing new volunteer positions supporting challenges and providing additional volunteer support.
  • Partner with organizational stakeholders to identify opportunities to strengthen and grow the volunteer program at the Ozaukee Campus
  • Partner with the Director of Volunteer Programs to provide support for organizational events.

Qualifications:

  • Previous volunteer or people management experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills required. Must be able to communicate professionally with all levels of staff and the public and be willing to speak to groups of current and potential volunteers.
  • Ability to navigate challenging conversations.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented; capable of accepting and completing work assignments with minimal supervision in a highly motivated manner.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft suite and the ability to quickly learn and use our volunteer database
  • Demonstrated alignment with our mission people-centered philosophy and organizational values of compassion respect and kindness; innovation; professionalism; equity; and positive approach
  • Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work

TheWisconsin Humane Society(WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee Ozaukee Racine Door Brown and Kenosha Counties as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services youth programs low-cost veterinary resources retail stores volunteer programs dog training classes and much more. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the states busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group.
