Job Description
The Police Crime and Criminal Intelligence Analyst performs advanced analytical work to support investigations intelligence-led policing strategic planning and administrative decision-making. This position plays a vital role in identifying and monitoring crime patterns criminal networks and emerging threats by analyzing a wide range of data sources including crime reports surveillance data and intelligence databases.
Working collaboratively with patrol officers detectives special units and interagency task forces the analyst delivers both tactical and strategic support to enhance operational efficiency guide enforcement priorities and support public safety initiatives.
What youll do:
- Analyze crime data calls for service arrest records and intelligence reports to identify patterns trends and emerging crime problems.
- Review surveillance data social media content and federal/state intelligence to assess threats and detect criminal activity.
- Create maps reports and summaries to help understand crime patterns threats and suspect information.
- Provide analytical support for officers investigators specialized units and department leadership.
- Collaborate with internal units and external partners (local state and federal).
The ideal candidate is:
- Familiar with law enforcement operations systems and investigative processes.
- Able to maintain composure and work calmly and effectively in high-stress situations.
- An excellent communicator with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Able to maintain a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess and maintain a valid KS drivers license and City insurable driving record. Please review the Insurability Guidelines.
- Bachelors degree in criminal justice criminology intelligence studies homeland security statistics public administration or a related field with two years of experience in crime analysis intelligence analysis or a similar law enforcement support. OR
- A high school diploma or its equivalent is required with a minimum of six years of experience in crime analysis intelligence analysis or a similar law enforcement support role.
- Must be able to pass an extensive background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Crime and/or Criminal Intelligence Analysis (e.g. CLEA CICA or state-level credential).
- Experience supporting investigations into gangs narcotics firearms trafficking or organized crime.
- Knowledge of predictive policing models and intelligence-led policing frameworks.
- Previous participation in joint task forces or regional intelligence operations.
Entry rate of pay: $27.91 - $33.50 depending on qualifications
