Job Summary

A summer research assistant is needed to support research activities related to two programs. The first is a project Implementation science study of rural clinical trials.

This project aims to promote rural health equity by building a rural clinical research program situated in Cranbrook. The program will be developed collaboratively with community members patient partners healthcare workers and health administrators to generate knowledge on strategies to support clinical trial implementation in rural settings. A Clinical Trials Advisory Committee (CTAC) and a Patient Partner Steering Committee (PPSC) will be established to guide this research

The second is to provide research assistant support to the UBC Rural Scholars Program. This program enables two rural scholars to pursue research projects.


Organizational Status
Under the direction of Dr. Denise Jaworsky this position is hired within the University of British Columbia (UBC) Division of General Internal Medicine -Community. This position is a full-time term position located in Cranbrook BC. The incumbent is expected to provide regular reports to the PI or project leader(s) on projects tasks and goals progress. He/she will interact and work closely with the students researchers and staff members of the East Kootenay Clinical Trial research group.

He/she will also work closely with the UBC Rural Scholars in the Department of Family Practice.


Work Performed

Provide logistical and research support to the Clinical Trials Advisory Committee and Patient Partner Steering Committee including preparing briefing materials and documenting research-related decisions.

Support grant writing through literature reviews coordinating with team members and gathering letters of support

Assists with the preparation and submission of research ethics board applications and amendments

Works closely with East Kootenay Regional Hospital clinical research coordinator to distribute clinical trial education material

Participates in cultural safety learning activities and supports research activities that incorporate cultural safety principles including Indigenous consultation

Supports qualitative data collection

Work may involve simple techniques and methods requiring knowledge and/or procedures that are readily acquired; all problems are referred to supervisor.

Works under direct supervision in accordance with detailed oral or written instructions; routine duties are carried out under general supervision.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the healthcare setting within the East Kootenay Region

Strong understanding of rural health issues

Online survey development skills
