Hours of Work: Shift work 24-7 facility

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Supervisor shall be familiar with and adhere to the philosophy and all policies and procedures as established by the Madison County Probation & Court Services Department. All work must be treated as confidential.
Under the direction of the Superintendent the Supervisor will perform activities to include but not be limited to the following:
- Responsible for the ongoing supervision of the Detention Officers support staff residents interns etc. and the overall shift operation as scheduled.
- Maintains the safety and security of the residents and staff through sound decision-making and adherence to Policy and Procedure.
- Delegates staff duties in a fair unbiased manner.
- Ensures that daily schedules are followed and Policy and Procedure is adhered to.
- Ensures the accuracy and thoroughness of all paperwork computer entries logs reports etc. completed on the shift.
- Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner and ensures that staff in his/her charge conduct themselves in a professional manner as well.
- Assists in the orientation and training of all staff.
- Encourages and reinforces staff to perform their duties in an exemplary manner.
- Corrects inappropriate staff behavior in a professional manner.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of adolescent development and how to manage the behavior of troubled youth.
- Interacts with all residents in a fair compassionate consistent manner.
- Ensures that staff interactions with residents are conducted in a fair compassionate consistent manner.
- Observes and mediates interactions between staff to promote a positive productive work environment.
- Maintains composure and provides leadership in crisis situations.
- Evaluates staff in an unbiased objective manner.
- Participates in the development implementation and evaluation of facility programming.
- Participates in the review and revision of adheres to and promotes the Policy and Procedure along with the philosophy of the department.
- Must be able to make independent decisions based on Policy and Procedure when appropriate.
- As part of Detention Home management is on-call twenty-four hours per day and is responsible for the operation of the facility in the absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
- Attends and participates in all staffings meetings and/or training as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Performs such other duties as assigned by the Director of Probation and Court Services the designated Superintendent the designated Chief Managing Officer or other designated managers.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Obtained a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university and two or more years employed in education social work or in criminal justice systems with demonstrated ability in management and supervision of probation detention or related
Services departments.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Due to department structure and programming individual must maintain flexibility in assignment location and scheduled hours of work.
Ability to get along with and interact with adult and juvenile probationers knowledge of the court system initiative and ability to work well on ones own with minimal supervision.
Must be a citizen of the United States. Must be a resident of the county probation district or circuit in which he/she is employed. Must be generally qualified as provided by law or rule of court.
Must have devotion to principles of public services capacity to learn by experience fundamental capacity for and interest in the welfare of human beings good character and balanced personality ability to work with others and possession of a valid Illinois Drivers License.

- Clinical Supervision Observes community corrections staff as they complete their duties; reviews case files and other documents; assures employees follow policy and procedure and that best practices and evidence based practices are being utilized
- Computer Proficiency - Uses computer programs (word processing database spreadsheet etc.) at a basic level; enter data using a keyboard; receive and send email; retrieve and store electronic files; print reports
- Correctional Knowledge Studies the body of professional correctional knowledge; stays current on best practices by being active in professional organizations networking with peers in other organizations and reading professional journals
- Follow Up Assigns work or tasks to others; checks to assure the work assigned or delegated has been completed as expected
- Give Presentations Prepares and gives formal and informal presentations in meetings and at other events; organizes material to be covered to effective convey key points and concepts; and is proficient in the use of audio-visual equipment and can integrate audio-visual elements into presentations that are being given
