The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Office of Inspector General Licensing Bureau.

The Community Residential / Mental Health Surveyor is responsible for the overall licensing for mental health facilities youth care facilities community homes for persons with developmental disabilities and physical disabilities chemical dependency facilities private residential and outdoor programs and various health care facilities. This position conducts inspections often unannounced to assess the care provided to determine compliance with State and Federal requirements. Other duties include recommending licensing action monitoring facilities that have difficulty meeting minimum compliance requirements and assisting new and existing providers in understanding and meeting State requirements for licensure. This position also investigates allegations made of non-compliance on facilities. This position will provide technical assistance and training to licensed facilities.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of State government operation rules policies and legislative process.

  • Knowledge of emotional disorders mental illness physical disabilities chemical dependency and social work.

  • Strong and effective investigative skills.

  • Ability to work independently without supervision.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with diverse individuals staff supervisors State and Federal government agencies health care providers consumers and other groups.

  • Ability to make logical systematic decisions considering the impact on others and to make difficult or unpopular decisions.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

o Bachelors degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences (Social Work Psychology Sociology Family and Consumer Sciences Human Services Education).

o One year of job related work experience.

o Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
