Your role & work environment

An opportunity has become available to lead the Product Control (PC) department covering NL/EMEA. The role of the regional Head of PC NL/EMEA will functionally report to the Global Head of Trading Risk Management (TRM). The Head of PC NL/EMEA will actively contribute to the development and implementation of the overall PC strategy and ING business principles including INGs Orange Code.

Your teams provide Product Control to the various Financial Markets (FM) trading and Group Treasury Wholesale Bank Network (GT WBN) desks in Amsterdam and other EMEA locations (excluding UK). The local PC teams are part of the Financial Risk (FR) TRM TRM is a global department within the ING CRO domain responsible for market risk management and product control of the FM and GT WBN activities.

You will lead the Financial PC team of FM and GT WBN NL/EMEA and will guide and motivate your teams to continuously improve their performance accounting and reporting on FM Products. You will work closely together with the management team of FM Netherlands and region EMEA whom you are going to provide analytics and insights in the financial controls and performance of the desks. Furthermore you will work closely together with the TRM colleagues on the Valuation and Market data topics.

Product Control oversees the various internal and external accounts of ING Financial Markets desks and the daily bookings made on these addition the team is also responsible for the day-to-day reporting of profit & Loss and ensures controls the correctness of the financial data in the different tools. Next to this the teams are also involved in the product approval process regulatory and compliance projects and continuous system improvements. As a regional leader you will be expected to work proactively with the Front Office and other stakeholders in order to develop and deliver strategic and IFRS compliant business solutions.

At transaction level Product Control checks whether the entries are correct and anticipates incorrect entries in more complex files by making proactive arrangements with the services concerned regarding the correct action to undertake.

Your key responsibilities

The key responsibilities for the role are:

  • Managing staff: staff appraisals coaching and development. Ensuring regular feedback is provided through mid-year and year-end performance reviews. Determine required training & development needs for team members including development and coaching of team members in relation to product control knowledge and skills.

  • Responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of P&L reporting for all FM and GT WBN related activities in the month-end financial ledger and ensuring the alignment with and validation of this P&L with the desk heads.

  • Analyse the data recognize and explain relevant trends and exceptional events.

  • Guarantee the reconciliation between the position keeping system and both product and general ledger advice on administration of changes to the accounting system.

  • Establish the link between the accounting figures and the business results.

  • Challenge and advice financial impact decisions due to market circumstances information and pricing models used.

  • Participate in the FM NL Parameter Committee and have oversight of the content preparation and ensure all P&L related risk and issues are highlighted and addressed.

  • Coordination and oversight of the Financial Reporting and SOX processes for NL/EMEA.

  • Initiate and support innovation on business processes and reporting improvements to increase efficiency and better meet customer needs.

  • Accountability for the interactions with internal and external auditors.

  • Manage finance related projects to ensure PC function has appropriated IT platform to use.

  • Closely follow market developments and continuously engaging with Front Office to stay up to date with their trading strategy.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English.

  • Intrinsic drive and high level of self-motivation.
