The Instructional Designer I serves as integral part of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) conducting the analysis design development implementation and evaluation phases to develop Computer-Based Training (CBT) materials using commercial off-the-shelf and/or company-created software tools. The ID provides expertise to design and develop CBT or conduct technical training in accordance with contractual specifications standards and instructions.

Essential Job Functions

  • Uses commercial off-the-shelf or company developed authoring tools to create CBT products such as Interactive Courseware (ICW) or Instructor-Led Training (ILT) materials in accordance with company and customer curriculum development standards and conventions.
  • Writes text gathers graphics and assembles other onscreen elements to create clear and concise instructionally sound onscreen presentations of information in accordance with the prescribed guidance for the specific project.
  • Works with a team of training development professionals to analyze design develop and deliver CBT products virtual/augmented reality simulators and training devices. Advises Subject Matter Experts (SME)s and Courseware Developers (CWD)s on the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) principles used to develop training.
  • Using SME and CWD provided input analyzes designs develops implements and evaluates instructional materials including needs analysis target audience analysis job/task analysis learning objectives learning measures learning strategies flow diagrams lesson specifications and storyboards.
  • Works closely with Quality Assurance Professionals (QAPro) to ensure that produced training materials are instructionally sound.
  • Provides expertise in ISD by assisting and advising training development and support personnel.
  • Must be aware of International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) restrictions on export of military hardware and training services.
  • Must be aware of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and security classifications as outlined in the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM).
  • Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials.
  • May attend training conferences In-Process Reviews (IPRs) and other required meetings.
  • May be required to work occasionally outside of normal hours due to travel or availability of training equipment.
  • Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Work under supervision to proactively develop training materials.
  • Must be experienced in using Microsoft Office software tools.
  • Able to work in a team concept to accomplish common goals.
  • Must interact with military and other government personnel using the appropriate dialect and affording the proper courtesies while observing the correct customs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and in writing.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Instructional Technology Instructional Design Instructional Systems Design or closely related field or equivalent. Closely related degrees must have the majority (or a core group) of coursework in instructional design theory and practice.
  • Additional qualifications or experience as required by the contract position.
  • Successful completion of an approved Military Instructor Training Program preferred.
  • Prior experience with NETC Authoring Tools CITRIX AIM/LOM and AIM/CPM applications is preferred.
