The Athletic Team
Relationships are foundational for our athletic teams just as they are in the classroom at Mount Vernon. By prioritizing the connections built between coaches and our student-athletes we create an environment of support encouragement and accountability that allows our students to achieve their athletic goals beyond what they ever imagined for themselves. More than 80% of our Upper and Middle School students participate in athletics. Participating in sports plays a positive role in supporting youth development leading to improved academic achievement and stronger social and emotional well-being. The Athletic Team works collaboratively to deliver a high-quality experience for students and parents that lives into their core value We Over Me.
The Role
In this role you will have the opportunity to lead the Varsity Golf program with dedication professionalism and a deep commitment to fostering student growth. As Mount Vernon continues to invest in our athletic programs we seek a Varsity Golf Community Coach who will help cultivate a strong team culture and vibrant community. Ideal candidates will bring coaching experience and/or experience in an independent school setting. This part-time position requires availability for after-school practices games coach planning meetings and conditioning sessions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Varsity Golf team through in-season practices and competitions
- Design and implement effective practice plans and coaching strategies
- Monitor & support the academic progress of student-athletes
- Communicate & build relationships with parents players faculty & staff
- Possibly drive players to/from games in School vehicles as needed
- Represent the School & Athletic program in a professional manner and within the bounds of good sportsmanship
Core Competencies
- Relationship-driven leader who can build high quality relationships of trust
- Coach and mentor who is focused on character development
- Responsive and inspiring communicator
Requirements
- Bachelors degree and previous head coaching experience at the high-school level
- Positive and effective leadership organizational mentoring and coaching skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
