Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Encourage and foster independence in life skills and promote social maintenance. Provide therapeutic life-enriching activities interactions and social support for older adults or young adults with developmental disabilities.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following represents the majority of the duties but is not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary:

  • Exhibit positive interaction and interpersonal skills that motivate and encourage participant engagement in activities. Show a warm welcoming and supportive attitude to new participants and families. Be a cheerleader and advocate for the participants and their families.
  • Engage participants in structured activities adjusting based on interest and ability. Follow the daily activity schedule. Facilitate structured activities encourage participation in unstructured moments engage isolated individuals and create meaningful interactions for all participants.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records of participants attendance activity participation and grant-related documentation.
  • Maintain a safe secure environment. Follow all body mechanics standards to ensure staff and participant safety. Report safety issues to the Site Manager and monitor equipment function regularly.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff and volunteers. Foster a team-oriented environment that supports mentoring and a positive workplace culture.
  • Adhere to all ADS and LIFE policies procedures and practice guidelines.
  • Maintain consistent attendance follow ADS attendance policies and participate in staff meetings in-services training sessions and treatment team meetings as scheduled
Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Upon hire must obtain and maintain current certifications in:
    • First Aid
    • CPR
    • Tulsa County Food Handlers
    • Dementia Simulation Tour (provided by ADH Manager)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.

SKILLS:

A genuine desire to work with older adults or developmentally disabled young adults. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Caring and friendly attitude with an outgoing personality. Ability to engage individuals in group settings and one-on-one.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. push 200 lbs. and walk or stand 90% of the time. Good hearing and vision are necessary.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is primarily an office setting within a non-profit organization providing diverse services to seniors and their families.
