Work Schedule:

40 hours per week Monday-Friday. Hybrid work schedule eligible. This role requires occasional night and weekend hours to support events philanthropy and representing MOPOP; some travel may be required.

Salary:

$130000 - $150009.60

Position Summary

Partnering closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) the Controller is a critical leadership position at MOPOP. This role requires a hands-on and collaborative approach and holds responsibility for managing the General Ledger Internal/External/Tax Reporting functions compliance and more. The Controller will provide also oversight of the annual audit and other department-wide projects and processes. A successful Controller is experienced in efficiently balancing delegation and guiding team activities to ensure a high degree of timeliness and accuracy. This includes effective checks and balances and coaching direct reports. This key role will also direct MOPOPs relationship with auditors banks and other external parties and will support the organizations senior leadership team bringing best practices and an informed perspective.

Essential Job Duties (other duties as assigned)

  • Monthly and annual close and reporting
  • Annual audit
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of all local and state tax returns
  • Perform bank reconciliations for the depository and general accounts
  • Manage and provide oversight and review function over all reconciliation month end/annual close procedures
  • Oversee preparation of interim and annual financial statements ensure timely distribution of financial statements
  • Manage the input of the annual budget into the accounting system
  • Assist with Board and Finance Committee reporting
  • Identify and implement efficient processes procedures and workflows
  • Identify potential areas of strength and or concern in processes that affect project accounting and financial reporting and recommend improvements as needed
  • Recommend and implement policies and procedures to improve customer service ensure internal controls are operating effectively and streamline operations
  • Work to identify and resolve any control weaknesses
  • Provide oversight of the Revenue Accounts Receivable Expense and Accounts Payable functions
  • Regularly communicate formally and informally Organization and department goals policies plans and priorities
  • Provide variance analysis
  • Collaborate with peers Senior Leadership Team and project leaders to provide accurate useful and timely financial information analysis and trends and recommendations to facilitate effective project division and organizational decision-making which focuses on maximizing long-term profitability
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships as a valued business partner who is collaborative with a high degree of integrity
  • Participate in and possibly lead cross-functional committees and teams
  • Develop and promote cross-departmental relationships and synergies within the organization
  • Direct the development of timely effective routine financial analysis of all facets of the Organizations business operations and provide recommendations to key managers on areas of opportunity and operational direction
  • Provide information on budgets and expenditures to departmental administrators to assist them in making informed financial decisions

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • CPA required
  • Not-for-profit experience required
  • Sage Intacct experience required
  • Bachelors degree in accounting or related field or equivalent experience
  • 4-6 years related experience some public accounting experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and exercise a commitment to ethical conduct
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a dynamic range of individuals and teams and foster a positive and cooperative relationships within and outside of MOPOP
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement and commitment to integrity while working with sensitive and confidential financial transactions
  • Strong leaderships skills and ability to apply a solutions-oriented mindset across the department
