JOB SUMMARY: As a College Advisor for the Rogers Honors Academy this role will provide college guidance working with RHA high school students consulting with teachers staff and parents to effectively help students in their college process. This role will conduct programming for students and community members and accompany students on college visits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Other duties may be assigned; duties may vary according to grade level.

  • Advises groups/ individual students through the development of educational college and scholarship plans.
  • Refers students to tutoring and/or to other necessary resources
  • Consults with teachers staff and parents regarding the college needs of students
  • Conducts advising activities
  • Guides students regarding SAT and ACT preparation and testing; consults with parents explaining their usefulness in education/college planning
  • Facilitates informational meetings and evening meetings with parents
  • Assists in interpreting student assessments
  • Responsible for computerized management of student information: testing tutoring community service
  • Assists with RHA registration and conducts orientation for new RHA students
  • Meets with each student in the assigned caseload a minimum of three times each semester
  • Aids students in course selection
  • Maintains student records as applicable and protects their confidentiality
  • Works to discover and develop each students special abilities talents interests and strengths
  • Writes recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships
  • Helps students evaluate career interest and choices; disseminates occupational information to students through instructional guidance career education activities and other means
  • Meets with parents to include them in the college process
  • Travels with students on college visits often involving overnight and weekend travel
  • Researches college information and updates spreadsheets with current data
  • Determines community service projects and connects student projects to appropriate community need
  • Facilitates student work at community sites
  • Connects students with community members facilitates partnerships between student projects and community needs
  • Maintains a database of community resources and community needs or projects.
  • Visits community partners to assess needs and evaluate student work
  • Documents community projects through written and visual means
  • Other duties as needed

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree required. Masters degree in education preferred.
