Whats the role
The Payments Team Lead is responsible for leading coaching and transforming the payments operations team from a task-based transactional function into a high-performing team of payments experts.
This role focuses on building a culture of ownership continuous improvement and proactive exception management. The Team Leader will ensure that the team not only processes payments efficiently and accurately but also identify manage and resolve exceptions reduces risks and adds value to the overall payments function.
You play a key senior role within the team supporting the UK and Irish Payments teams as a point of escalation and reporting into the Head of Payments.
So what does that actually mean
- Oversee daily payments processing to ensure accuracy timeliness and compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Shift the teams focus from manual processing to analytical review and proactive exception management.
- Lead the identification analysis and resolution of payment exceptions ensuring minimal impact to clients and business operations.
- Proactively identify assess and mitigate operational and financial risks within payment processes to ensure compliance and safeguard company.
- Champion the importance of the customer experience mindset. Understand the value of consistency in delivering that experience.
- Monitor individual and team performance conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive criticism identifying improvement areas and solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement in team accuracy and efficiency identifying and implementing process enhancements where needed to ensure high standards of performance.
- Promote the importance of data protection and information security. The team should operate to an exceptionally high standard given the sensitivity of the data being worked with.
What else will help you to succeed in this role
- FCA or EU regulated financial services/payments and FX operations experience.
- A minimum of 2 years leadership experience in financial services.
- Strong operational experience with a track record of performance and process improvement
- Real interest in how the payments industry is evolving in the marketplace and a desire to apply that learning at Lumon.
- A real interest in leading a team and the commitment to develop those leadership skills
- Customer centric mindset
- A great communicator and a willingness/capability to engage with other areas of the business to seek solutions for customers
- Problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Proficiency in French Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
