Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Working as a member of the Health Information Services team the incumbent is responsible to perform a variet of tasks related to health information including but not limited to patient/client registration creating and maintaining the patient/client health record filing record retention and destruction and release of personal health information for ongoing care.

Experience

  • One (1) year experience in a Health Information Services Department required within the last two years.

or

  • One (1) year experience in a Medical Office required within the last two years.
  • Experience working with both electroinc and paper health records preferred.

A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education Manitoba Standards required
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical/Surgical Office Assistant diploma required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Health Information Management program perferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

Qualifications and Skills

  • Typing/keyboarding skills (minimum 30 wpm) required.
  • Medical terminology (75% pass) required.
  • Operational knowledge of computer terminals required.
  • Good command of English (oral and written) required.
  • Good interperonsal communication skills required.
  • Problem-solves and exercises judgement for decision-making within the scope of the job description.
  • Good understanding of the Mental Health Act and Personal Health Information Act.
  • Ensures security of patient/client health records and personal health information within the department.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting.
  • Standing walking stairs bending reaching above head lifting/moving patient records and boxes upto 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to deal with the public patients/clients coworkers health care professionals managers in a courteous respectful and confidential manner.
  • Work environment consists of frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to review documents electronically via a computer monitor screen for prolonged periods.
  • Working as part of a team.
  • Working alone.
  • No natural light.
  • Adheres to all safety and health policies regulations ans safe work practices.
  • May be required to travel throughout the service area requiring a valid Manitoba drivers license and use of a personal motor vehicle.
