Job Summary
The Evergreen State College seeks a thoughtful student-centered educator to teach two interdisciplinary applied mathematics courses during Winter and Spring quarters as part of our broader effort to support students entering fields such as computer science data science and applied analytics. The successful candidate will design and teach courses that make math accessible meaningful and career-relevant for learners who may be returning to math after time away or who are exploring technical fields for the first time. The faculty member will join Evergreens school of Professional and Continuing Education and will be expected to teach in the evenings or on weekends and will teach regularly in person. Course Assignments Winter Quarter Structured Thinking: Discrete Math for Coding (4 credits) This course introduces students to discrete mathematical reasoning through the lens of programming and computational thinking. Topics include propositional logic set theory functions recursion basic combinatorics and graph theory with emphasis on how these concepts support programming structures and algorithms. Students will develop problem-solving skills through hands-on real-world examples and collaborative exercises. The course is designed for learners with limited prior math or coding experience and emphasizes conceptual understanding over rote procedure. Spring Quarter Patterns Models and Meaning in a Data-Driven World (4 credits) This course prepares students for deeper work in data science by helping them engage with the mathematical thinking that underlies pattern recognition modeling and data interpretation. Key topics include functional reasoning and modeling introductory matrix and vector concepts (with applications in data organization and transformation) basic algorithmic thinking and the visual communication of data. Students explore how mathematical models and visual tools reveal structure and meaning in complex datasets. The course is designed to build both technical skill and confidence for those pursuing analytics-related pathways.

Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Mathematics or Computer Science College level teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications
