The Parliamentary Engagement team is a unique collaboration of staff from both the Office of the Clerk and the Parliamentary Service. Together were responsible for building and executing Parliaments engagement strategy - helping the public better understand and participate in the democratic process.

From education to digital content we deliver innovative accessible and inclusive initiatives that bring Parliament closer to New Communications team plays a central role in this mahi creating clear engaging and consistent messaging across internal and external channels leading media relationships and ensuring Parliaments story is told in a way that resonates with diverse audiences.

We work directly with the public and media to ensure everyone has the opportunity to engage with Parliaments work in a meaningful way.

M te tnga About the Role

As the Communications Lead youll be responsible for developing and delivering Parliaments internal and external communications strategy. Youll provide advice and solutions to senior leaders including the Chief Executive of Parliamentary Service and the Clerk of the House and lead a team to deliver impactful communications across multiple channels.

This is a 6-month fixed term role (or secondment opportunity) where you will:

  • Lead and coach a communications team
  • Manage Parliament New Zealands social media and digital content
  • Develop and implement internal and external communications strategies
  • Advise on high-profile projects and provide crisis communications leadership
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media the Press Gallery and stakeholders across the parliamentary precinct

This is a high-impact leadership role where your work will directly shape how New Zealanders experience and understand Parliament.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and significant experience in senior communications roles
  • Proven experience in managing social media and digital content
  • Strong political acumen and understanding of the New Zealand parliamentary environment
  • Demonstrated success in leading communications strategies for complex organisations
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to operate effectively in politically sensitive environments
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach motivate and develop a team
