Job Description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the PYP Principal/Assistant Principal the PYP Classroom Teacher provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fultill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Through successfull utilization of the IB curriculum students will be able to achieve academic success and develoop competencies and skills to successfully function in society.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
  • State teaching certification; IB training is highly desirable
  • ESL Certification
  • Completion and successful results of the state-required fingerprinting and criminal background check is required.
  • Ability to comply with allTEA regulations applicable federal state and local laws school policies and standards of the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Is legally able to work in the United States.

Priority will be given to applicants who possess:

  • Masters degree in Education or related field
  • Knowledge of International Baccalaureate (IB) programs
  • 1-3 years of experience in an IB World School
  • IBEN Member

Experience:

  • Two (2) plus years of experience in an educational or IB environment desirable.
  • Minimum of two years (2) of experience as a teacher.
  • Strong understanding of the IB philosophy and its emphasis on inquiry international-mindedness and academic rigor
  • Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students in meaningful and innovative learning experience

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Continually strives to improve classroom methods teaching techniques increase knowledge of content subject matter and interpersonal relationships.
  • Effectively displays the ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Possess exceptional pedagogical skills and understanding.
  • Display strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Accept and implement constructive feedback in a professional manner.
  • Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Able to maintain confidential information pertaining to students employees volunteers and the general operations of Westlake Academy.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates regularly with the IB coordinators and teachers to design implement and reflect on IB unit planner
  • Collaborates with the IB coordinators to produce supplementary teaching and learning materials that support IB conceptual understandings.
  • Attends faculty meetings and other appropriate staff meetings.
  • Communicates regularly and appropriately with parents/guardians regarding their childs classroom performance; develops methods in support of classroom goals and teacher expectations in the home environment.
  • Maintains professional relationship and communication with parents students and campus personnel; ensures that all interactions are supportive courteous and respectful.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Stay informed of and comply with federal state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with campus goals assigned areas of responsibility and the varied needs of students.
  • Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other Duties

  • Assists in the proctoring of public and internal examinations.
  • Assists with educational visits relevant to their classes or schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the PYP Principal Asst. Principal or Head of School.

EVALUATION

The performance of this job will be evaluated at least annually by the PYP Principal or Assistant Principal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.

Posture: Frequent standing kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting.

Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive hand motions frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.

Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 lbs.); may lift and move equipment; occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior.

Environment: Work inside may work outside.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours.
