Job Description
TITLE: School Nurse Substitute
QUALIFICATIONS: Current registration to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts
CPR with AED certified by AHA or ARC
REPORTS TO: Director of School Health Services
$150 per diem non-benefits eligible at-will position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accepts varying location assignments to support health services throughout school district
- Assesses and evaluates students health status
- Provides primary and emergency health care
- Administers medication in accordance with school policy and procedures
- Provides relevant teaching counseling and guidance to assist students and parents in assuming responsibility for appropriate health care
- Identifies students with special health care needs which affect learning
- Interprets student health needs to teachers and other school personnel
- Enters medical date into electronic health records on all students
- Assists screening programs for vision hearing growth and SBIRT to include follow-up retests
- Confirms student eligibility for sports
- Assists in the prevention and control of communicable diseases
- Participates in the modification of the school program to meet the needs of children with disabilities and medical conditions
- Develops Individual Health Care Plans Anaphylaxis Emergency Care Plans Asthma Health Care Plans and 504 plans as needed
- May serve on Child Protection Team and acts as an advocate and consultant for children suspected of being abused or neglected
- Maintains continuing education requirements for recertification by BORN
