Description

The Shire is looking for a hardworking reliable and hands-on person who is looking for a rewarding role that makes a real difference in our community. Join our hardworking Derby Works Depot team as a Works Labourer.

About the Role:

In this role you will help maintain the towns roads footpaths parks gardens drainage systems and open spaces. You will also work at the Derby Wharf and Derby and Curtin Airports carrying out tasks such as general gardening litter collection minor repairs and security duties.

Key tasks include:

  • Operating tools and equipment like whipper snippers mowers brush cutters leaf blowers tractors and hand tools.
  • Maintaining parks gardens street trees and open areas.
  • Carrying out minor repairs to roads footpaths and drainage.
  • Assisting with airport and wharf duties including security and handling baggage.
  • Following safety procedures and reporting any hazards.
  • Working well on your own or as part of a team.

Skills And Experiences

Knowledge Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated reliability.
  • Maintenance of parks gardens reserves sporting grounds and council facilities.
  • Maintenance of roads streets footpaths verges and drains.
  • Plant operation including hand tools minor plant and major plant.
  • Basic plant and machinery maintenance.
  • Occupational Safety and Health in relation to the work area.
  • Effective oral and interpersonal sound literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Team work and ability to work unsupervised.
  • Basic organisational and time management.
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and after hours when required

Desirable

  • Traffic management qualifications.
  • Senior first aid certificate.
  • Certificate in Horticultural Studies.
  • Current WA HR class drivers licence.

Qualifications and / or Training

Essential

  • White Card Construction Induction.
  • Current WA C class drivers licence.
  • Willingness to undertake structured and/or on-the-job training to develop foundational skills in municipal operations including (but not limited to) basic construction and maintenance techniques (e.g. basic concreting bitumen handling) safe operation and user maintenance of minor plant and light vehicles and parks maintenance
  • Current police clearance; certificate to be maintained throughout employment.
