Duties: Job Summary:Under general direction observes and practices sterile technique maintains asepsis anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff. Job Responsibilities:-Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.-Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.-Assists the surgeon when needed gowning gloving draping and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon s need for instruments sutures and equipment.-Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.-Keeps an accurate sponge tape needle dissector and instrument count.-Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems. Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.-Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient identifying potential hazards to the surgeon RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.-Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment chemical or gases) within the Operating Room.-Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.-Assists in suturing retracting suctioning under direction of the surgeon.-Handles and identifies specimens per policy.-Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases.-Takes rotating call duty.-Will perform additional responsibilities as requested.
Skills: Required Skills & Experience:-N/A Preferred Skills & Experience:-Previous Operating Room experience.-Previous Surgical Technologist experience.
Education: Required Education:-High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred Education:-N/A Required Certifications & Licensure:-Certified Surgical Technologist - NBSTSA - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or National Health career Association.-BLS Certification (AHA HSI or American Red Cross). Preferred Certifications & Licensure:-N/A
Schedule Notes: Day Rotation (M-F) - 40/week 13 Weeks (typically starting at 6a-7a. 5 8hr shifts or 4 10hr shifts) Call Requirements: Up to 3 shifts of call per week ranging from 8 to 16 hours. One working weekend per 4 weeks with call shift following shift of work. Cardiothoracic experience (CABG Valve replacements VATS Robotic chest procedures etc) NBSTSA (CST) or NCCT (TS-C)
