The opportunity we have available

The Vehicle Safety Operations Branch is Australias national vehicle standards regulator. We work to enhance vehicle safety emissions control and anti-theft protection to ensure the Australian vehicle fleet is safe and efficient. From 1 July 2021 theRoad Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA) has been in force. This legislation sets vehicle standards for all new vehicles entering the Australian market and regulates the supply to the market of used vehicles.

The Application Assessment and Approval section is responsible for the regulation of the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 by assessing certain applications to ensure the criteria for approval are met and providing support to businesses and individuals to provide road vehicles to the Australian market.

The Team Leader ROVER Level 1 Support leads the client focused ROVER Level 1 Support team the first contact point for industry businesses and individuals contacting the department in relation to the Road Vehicle Standards. ROVER Level 1 Support consists of a public facing call centre and a public mailbox.

The Team Leader ROVER Level 1 Support officer will:

  • contribute to planning and monitoring of work processes for the team
  • identify development and learning opportunities for staff and delegate tasks effectively
  • foster a cohesive team culture that encourages openness honesty and knowledge sharing
  • consistently demonstrate and encourage team members to demonstrate the appropriate standards of ethical and professional behaviour.

What will you do

The tasks of the Team Leader ROVER Level 1 Support include:

  • managing the ROVER Level 1 Support team which includes a call centre with up to 7 staff and a high-volume inbox
  • oversight and maintenance of up-to-date scripts and templates
  • developing and implementing training materials for ROVER Level 1
  • responding to complex emails and calls as secondary escalation point
  • engaging with stakeholders about their applications and the related policy and standards
  • contributing to operational discussions in relation to the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 and Road Vehicle Standards Rules 2019
  • providing statistical and other reporting as necessary
  • preparing executive briefing material and analytical reports relating to issues identified through ROVER Level 1
  • contributing new ideas and maximise the benefits of change including the identification of opportunities to improve the efficiency of business processes
  • responding to information and/or legislative requests such as Freedom of Information requests
  • oversight of staffing performance and development of staff including daily team management and workload management

Call centre experience is desirable.

Eligibility requirements

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure Transport Regional Development Communications Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

  • Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
  • Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the departments preferred medical provider.
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia or have a checkable background for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
