is looking for a Manager of Accounting to join our Finance team.
This is a hybrid position working three days onsite and two from home at our Headquarters located in Freeport ME.
Position Purpose
This leadership role oversees the accounting team and operations at ensuring accurate financial reporting compliance with GAAP and continuous process improvement. Key responsibilities include managing audits financial systems and reporting processes with a focus on implementing and maintaining a robust internal control environment that supports financial integrity and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and manage the accounting department fostering a motivating and engaging culture.
Set objectives provide feedback and hold the team accountable.
Oversee staffing decisions and organizational structure.
Coach and mentor team members supporting skill development and technology adoption.
Financial Reporting & Close Processes
Manage monthly and year-end close processes.
Ensure timely and accurate financial statements and management reports.
Present financial results and variance analysis to senior leadership.
Support tax close and reconciliations.
Audit Compliance & Internal Controls
Lead year-end financial statement and employee benefit plan audits.
Ensure compliance with GAAP internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Stay current on accounting standards and manage policy updates.
Establish maintain and enhance internal controls.
Collaborate across departments to embed financial controls into business processes.
Systems & Process Improvement
Oversee financial systems and ERP structure.
Drive automation and process enhancements.
Develop reporting requirements for new systems or initiatives.
Contribute to the departments technology roadmap and prioritization of enhancements.
Health & Safety
All employees are expected to contribute to a safe workplace with leaders modeling and enforcing safety practices.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting; CPA or equivalent designation required.
Experience: 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience.
Skills:
Strong GAAP and financial reporting knowledge
Leadership and people management
Analytical communication and collaboration skills
Aptitude for structure controls and compliance
ERP and Excel proficiency (SAP a plus)
Experience with automation or AI is a plus
