HOLMES Trainer
Prospective officers and staff must be held to a higher standard of behaviour and accountability than members of the public and that therefore their right to privacy can be fettered in certain circumstances. This is to ensure that members of the police are fully aware and accountable for the unique powers entrusted to them and the standards of professional behaviour they swear to uphold.
Applications are invited for the position of HOLMES Trainer based between Aston Police Station and C3 Park Lane.
The successful candidate will work in an interesting and varied role responsible for HOLMES training for West Midlands Police and other Forces and Organisations. The trainer will be the subject matter expert in this area for the Force. They will report to the HOLMES System Manager.
Duties will include:
Prepare and deliver effective training courses and assessments for all HOLMES roles in accordance with MIRSAP
Assist with course evaluation review and the update of content to ensure it is constantly developed and current
Keep abreast of changes and version upgrades to the HOLMES system. Cascade system release notes and prepare and deliver workshops accordingly
Communicate with Unisys in relation to any issues or technical faults with the HOLMES system within both the Live and Training Environments
Liaise with all departments/LPAs and external forces and organisations to monitor training requirements
Attend National HOLMES Working Groups to understand and develop future improvements to HOLMES
Monitor live HOLMES databases to ensure compliance with national rules and conventions
Understand current investigational needs within an incident room environment to ensure HOLMES training is adapted and delivered accordingly
Provide first line management to indexers and typists as required. This will include managing welfare performance and attendance using appropriate WMP policies and procedures.
Monitor and mentor newly trained indexing staff
Provide where necessary operational assistance to support major incidents and disasters.
Compile and present training performance data to direct WMP Service Improvements
Assist with the delivery of other ad hoc training on behalf of the Major Crime Unit
Essential Requirements:
Successfully completed a HOLMES Indexer Course and have extensive experience in HOLMES Version 18
Demonstrate a detailed working knowledge of multiple roles and functions within a live environment
Sound knowledge and practical experience of the Major Incident Room Standardised Administration Procedures
Experience of delivering training and supporting students in a classroom environment
High Level of IT Skills
Effective Communication Skills Both Written and Verbal
Organisational Skills and the ability to prioritise workloads
Interpersonal and Influencing Skills
Desirable Requirement:
Completion of Training Essentials Programme (TEP) or a willingness to work towards in post
Knowledge of the Criminal Procedure and Investigation Act

Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday
We work a flexible working pattern. Start time between 07.00AM-10.00AM. Lunch can take place between 10.00AM and 12.00PM. Finish time anytime after 15.00PM. If hours worked are less then 7.18 then these can be made up at a later date.
Any additional hours worked will be banked as flexi to use as leave.
The successful candidate will be expected to adapt their hours to fit around course times/dates.

Vetting:
Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearancescrutiny prior to commencing their role this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
Medical:
Appointment to this role may be dependent upon successfully completing medical checks which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
Probationary Policy:
Under the Probation Policy if you are currently in your probation periodduring your probationary period you will not be permitted to apply for alternative police staff roles within the Force unless there are exceptional such cases you would require the support of your line manager prior to applying for alternative roles and if successful your probationary period will start over.
