About the role

  • Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)
  • Duration: 1- year fixed-term contract
  • Remuneration: Level C $91k - $121k base 17% Superannuation Annual Leave Loading
  • Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.

Who we are

The Population Child Health research group UNSW is an integrated multidisciplinary translational research team working across the Sydney Childrens Hospitals Network with partners in Local Health Districts State and Commonwealth governments to inform service delivery and policy through innovation collaboration research policy development and advocacy.

Why this role matters

The Research Associate (Health Services Research/Epidemiology) will work within the Population Child Health research group School of Clinical Medicine UNSW and will support research service and develop novel research by increasing quality publication output and grant income with the aim of improving the health wellbeing and development of children and young people locally nationally and internationally.

As the Research Associate (Health Services Research/Epidemiology) you will provide statistical and epidemiological support for intervention-based studies and grant applications. The position conducts research activities including surveys literature reviews data collection and recording results using appropriate research methods under the guidance of a research leader. The role supports the dissemination of research outcomes through suitable channels and involves presenting at conferences and/or workshops.

The role reports directly to the Head of the Population Child Health research group and has no direct reports.

Skills required

  • A PhD in Epidemiology/Statistics or related discipline and/or an appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience training and/or professional accreditation.
  • Competency in a range of statistical software preferably R SAS and/or Stata and previous experience working with large sets of data.
  • Experience working in the design and evaluation of trials would be beneficial.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research (including study design and implementation grant writing and ethics applications) and conduct independent research with limited supervision through engaging organisational stills managing priorities and demonstrating attention to detail.
  • Proven commitment to keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
