Functions
As a Safety Engineer within the Safety Unit of CERNs Beams Department you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe operation and continuous improvement of one of the most complex scientific infrastructures on the planet. Depending on your expertise and experience you will contribute to (and in some cases lead) activities such as:
- Evaluate safety requirements and implement risk mitigation strategies for activities accelerator and beam operation and large-scale projects;
- Assess compliance of installations laboratories and workshops through safety audits inspections and testing;
- Authorise activities through safety evaluations and the issuance of safety permits ensuring to meet CERNs safety rules;
- Provide training and promote awareness on safety-related matters ensuring best practices are understood and applied;
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of CERNs safety- and quality management systems including documentation.
Qualifications :
Masters degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Nuclear Engineering Occupational Health and Safety Aerospace Engineering or Process Engineering or a related field.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience in:
- Safety engineering risk evaluation and licensing process in an industrial site of a complexity similar to CERN;
- Writing documentation for regulated industry;
- Quality management systems;
- Liaison with stakeholders fostering a strong safety culture through training and communication.
Experience from working in a multidisciplinary diverse environment would be an asset.
Technical competencies:
- Occupational safety and risk management: including hazard identification and analysis risk assessment and compensatory measures definition;
- Knowledge of EU regulations: in matters of operational and radiological safety;
- Information and document management for safety documentation.

Employment Conditions
Contract type: Limited duration contract (5 years). Subject to certain conditions holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
This position involves:
- Work in Radiation Areas.
- Interventions in underground installations.
- A valid driving licence.
- Work during nights Sundays and official holidays when required by the needs of the Organisation.
