Job Description

Introduction

Are you a motivated engineer or applied physicist in the field of accelerator physics who is passionate about pioneering advancements in beam loss detection at the highenergy frontier Take part! 

You will join the Accelerator Systems Department (SY) which is responsible for the beamrelated technical systems of the CERN accelerators. The SY teams design build and operate equipment systems in all CERN accelerators and are engaged in ambitious forwardlooking R&D programmes.  

The position will be in the Beam Loss Measurement Section (BL) of the Beam Instrumentation Group (BI). You will take part in the development of beam loss detectors for present and future accelerators with strong involvement on the Future Circular Collider ElectronPositron (FCCee). You will have the opportunity to contribute to various fields including data analysis and simulations research and development of new beam particles detectors and identify strategic directions for the development of future beam loss monitors. 

Functions

You will: 


Qualifications :

Masters degree or PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of applied physics or engineering on beam instrumentation or beam losses or a related field.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis in particular on beam loss measurements in high energy physics;
  • Experience in commissioning and operation of beam instrumentation or beam loss monitoring systems of an operational accelerator;
  • Experience in the definition or integration of new equipment in accelerators layout.

Technical competencies:

  • Knowledge and application of gas based particle detection technologies;
  • Analysis and interpretation of experimental data;
  • Analysis and optimization of accelerator performance;
  • Assembly and integration of detectors;
  • Simulation design and development of (parts of) detectors.

Spoken and written English with a commitment to learn French.
