In this role youll:
Learn how to confidently control and oversee train locomotive and traffic movements. Youll make decisions on when to prioritise and allow track maintenance works whilst ensuring the safe and efficient running of our network is front of mind.
Learn technical and non-technical skills needed to work in Operations Control. Your training will cover reading and understanding of the Sydney Trains Safeworking Rules as well as learning how to operate various signal box panels.

Ever wondered what a day in the life of a Trainee Train Signaller looks like
Follow Asheem as he takes you behind the scenes at the ROC (Rail Operations Centre): does the Training Program involve
Trainees complete a trainee program with Sydney Trains where you receive a combination of classroom and on-the-job training for up to 30 weeks.
Our on-the-job training will give you exposure to a variety of signal boxes including Penrith St Marys Clyde Campbelltown Gosford Broadmeadow Blacktown Lithgow and the Rail Operation Centre (Alexandria).
Note: the business will endeavour to take your home location into consideration when allocating training locations however due to training being held at various locations you will need to be flexible and may experience increased travel times throughout the course of training.
About you
You can attend training for a period of up to 30 weeks across various locations in the Greater Sydney area.
You are willing and able to commit to 24 hours a day 7 days a week rotating roster schedules will include early mornings late nights evenings and weekends.
You have strong communication skills and can express ideas concisely.
You naturally enjoy solving problems and can think quickly when challenges arise.
Youre resilient and disciplined with proven experience meeting deadlines.
You are accountable and committed to improving yourself every day.
Youre technologically experienced with strong computer skills that youve built through your previous work experiences/academic pursuits.
Trainee Train Signaller Open Days
As part of this recruitment process we will be hosting onsite information sessions for our upcoming Trainee Train Signaller Intakes on 8 September & 11 September 2025.
These sessions will be held on site at the Rail Operations Centre (177-187 Wyndham St Alexandria NSW 2015).
Sessions will run for 90 minutes please note attendance is optional but encouraged.
