GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Come Join The Wyoming Department of Corrections. The Cheyenne Central Office is seeking a Policy and Planning Coordinator. This position coordinates and responds directly to inmate correspondence to include; legal requests policy questions grievances inmate religious practices letters and other inmate correspondence. Involves legal research policy clarification reviewing policy and procedures discussion with inmates and Subject Matter Experts. Assists in legislative affairs and conducts research for the Director of Corrections and responds to requests for information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.


  • Responsible for reviewing and interpreting federal and state statutes regulations rules legislative intent agency mission and goals gubernatorial and administrative requirements and applying them to agency-specific or statewide programs.
  • Manage and coordinate special high-level projects studies and reports.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of the inmate grievance program including training as well as investigating and responding to inmate grievances letters and other correspondence directed to Central Office.
  • Assist the Policy and Planning Manager in policy research drafting and organization.
  • Assist in oversight for WDOC religious program including review of religious policies practices handbook diets and holiday observations as well as responses to inmate requests regarding the religious program.
  • Assists the Wyoming Department of Corrections Public Record Designee. This includes working with the public records management system gathering records reviewing records for redaction releasing records and communicating with inmates and the public on record requests.
  • Writing warrants for escaped inmates and managing the inmate administrative warrants process.
  • Manage updates and coordination of the inmate network.
  • Manage departmental contracts with the provider for electronic law library resources; advise law library coordinators and Wardens regarding the management of inmate law libraries; provide technical assistance in responding to requests for materials; train and/or coordinate training of authorized users of electronic law library resources.
  • Assist in managing the WDOC employee portal and external website.
  • Assist the Policy and Planning Manager in duties related to human resources/liaison with A&I HRD
  • Assist with training staff coordinate and develop required policy trainings

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference may be given to candidates with a solid foundation in corrections and/or a criminal justice background or degree.
Preference may also be given for a post-graduate degree in Business Criminal Justice or other related fields.
Preference may also be given to those with knowledge of correctional facility operations
Preference may also be given to those with knowledge of handling inmate property inmate disciplinary process and grievance system.


KNOWLEDGE:


Experience:
1-3 years) of progressive work experience (typically in Business) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Policy & Planning Analyst
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Policy & Planning Analyst
