Position Requirements:
- Must be an incoming senior nursing student from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program. BSN preferred but will consider associate degree applicants.
- GPA must be 3.0 or higher unofficial transcript required.
- Completion of pediatric clinical prior to Fall 2025 preferred.
- Two clinical instructor references required and will be collected via Skill Survey.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 16 or 24 hrs/week based on unit preference.
- Must be able to attend all program dates listed below.
- Senior Externs will receive priority interviewing with hiring managers for RN positions.
- If hired as RN will receive financial assistance for NCLEX Prep Course.
Program Dates:
- Hybrid Orientation: January 5-9
- Begin Shifts on Unit: Week of January 11
- Workshops: January 23 February 20 March 27 April 24 from 12p-4:30p
- Graduation: May 22
Performs basic supportive care to specified patients and families under the direction and supervision of an RN or Care Manager. Collects documents and reports data to the RN Care Manager but does not interpret data. Demonstrates competence in providing age-appropriate care and service for pediatric patients from birth to 21 years and selected adults.
Essential Functions:- Provides care using a Family Centered approach. Provides basic supportive care pertaining to nutrition mobility and elimination.
- Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical psychological and social needs of patients and families.
- Remains compliant with HIPAA maintains professionalism and ensures confidentiality of patient information.
- Collects documents and reports vital signs such as: Temperature pulse respirations blood pressure or mean arterial pressure heights and weights. Completes screening questions and documents all items into the electronic health record.
- Promotes general patient safety and performs minor specimen collection and testing. Holds positions patients and assists with procedures. Preps all materials and supplies as needed.
- Documents according to organizational standards policies and procedures.
- Identifies learning needs and participates in educational activities as appropriate.
Education Requirement:Last semester of senior year in a nationally accredited nursing program baccalaureate preferred.
