Position is funded in part through federal funds.
The primary purpose of this position is to identify blind or visually impaired people whose disability creates a substantial impediment to employment and enable them to obtain employment. This is achieved through the provision of a planned program of rehabilitation services including job development and placement services and direct interaction with employers in the community to assist the person in achieving employment commensurate with his/her skills choice interests and capabilities. The counselor in this position is primarily responsible for providing and coordinating these services to individuals who are blind and visually impaired attending school in the Cumberland County Public School System.

The Division of Services for the Blind provides services to people who are visually impaired blind and deaf- blind to help them reach their goals of independence and employment.
About the NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS):

The following Management Preferences are not required but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:
Knowledge of or experience in case management
Knowledge of or experience working with a team of professionals to help a client meet a goal
Experience with working with youth in transition
Experience working with blind and visually impaired individuals
Experience working with school personnel/staff
