Job Description

The Opportunity

The Design System Designer plays a key role in the Regional Experience Design team driving consistency and scalability across digital products through a unified visual language. This role focuses on creating reusable components improving design quality and reducing design debt by collaborating closely with designers engineers and stakeholders.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining system foundations patterns and documentation while supporting Asia Segment teams in contributing to global standards and establishing localized libraries. Strong visual and interaction design skills systems thinking and clear communication are essential.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Define and evolve Manulifes visual language including typography color iconography and components ensuring consistency across platforms.

  • Maintain and scale Figma libraries for desktop and mobile supporting design and development teams.

  • Conduct regular audits of UI and design system assets to identify gaps and drive improvements aligned with brand and platform guidelines.

  • Develop and manage a contribution model to support scalable component creation across autonomous product teams.

  • Establish reusable design foundations and cohesive UX/UI guidelines for mobile and web products.

  • Collaborate with designers engineers and stakeholders to drive adoption and ensure alignment across teams and products.

  • Create interactive prototypes and clear documentation to communicate design rationale and system updates.

  • Partner with development teams to ensure accurate implementation of design specifications.

  • Advocate for the design system through presentations best practice sharing and cross-functional engagement.

  • Work effectively with remote and interdisciplinary teams across design product engineering and strategy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong systems-thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex design challenges at scale.

  • Proven experience in building and maintaining design systems across web and mobile platforms.

  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles and accessibility standards.

  • Skilled in design and prototyping tools such as Figma Adobe Creative Cloud Principle and AI-powered design tools (e.g. Figma Make Stitch Uizard Midjourney or similar).

  • Familiarity with front-end technologies and mobile platforms (e.g. HTML5 CSS iOS Android React AEM Angular) and their impact on design feasibility.

  • Experience applying AI in design workflows such as automating component generation enhancing accessibility or streamlining documentation.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering product and research.

  • Strong documentation and presentation abilities to articulate design rationale and system guidelines.

  • Highly organized detail-oriented and passionate about delivering consistent scalable and high-quality user experiences.

  • Ability to advocate for design systems and communicate user insights through compelling storytelling.
