Your New Role
CNN is seeking an experienced news editor to join its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong to take a leading role in helping to shape the worlds biggest and most important stories.
This is a role for an ambitious and capable editor with outstanding news judgment excellent communication skills and a passion for breaking news and distinctive enterprise journalism.
Your Role Accountabilities
Reporting to the Director of News youll work as part of a diverse highly-collaborative team of digital-first journalists deftly coordinating daily news assignments and the flow of information to deliver smart accessible stories for a growing cross-platform global audience.
You will have proven high-level editing skills and the ability to distill complex ideas bringing a deep understanding of US national and international affairs as well as an eye for emerging trends.
This is a senior newsroom role that requires calmness under pressure. As Senior News Editor you will help steer the agenda during major breaking news from terror attacks to natural disasters responding in real-time to unexpected developments and making decisive editorial decisions.
You will have a broad portfolio and will be expected to move between reactive and proactive depending on the situation; commissioning editing framing and writing editorial content for all of CNNs platforms; taking a lead in crafting original distinctive news enterprise reporting that differentiates CNN; ensuring all journalism produced adheres to CNN standards and integrity; and communicating across teams on multi-region news scoops and investigative projects.
Though the role is located in Asia-Pacific you will be working as part of a global 24/7 digital-first cross-platform team including on occasional weekends providing a key editorial link between CNNs US Europe Middle East and Africa operations and deputizing for the Director of News when needed.
Qualifications & Experience
A minimum of 8 years of editing experience for leading digital-first outlets
A proven track record of editing major breaking news; superior news judgement; and the ability to deliver in a highly pressurized deadline driven environment
Exceptional planning and organizational skills with a demonstrable track record of executing detailed digital-first coverage plans
Heightened ability to identify news and cultivate strong sources and areas of expertise
Experience conceiving and producing distinctive enterprise journalism identifying unique reporting opportunites and/or investigative works
A passion for news and a deep knowledge of US national and international affairs
The ability to think in headlines and smart framings while considering the intended audience
College degree or equivalent industry experience
Perfect grasp of written and spoken English
Enthusiasm flexibility and a desire to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment
