Position Summary
Career Readiness Learning Objectives: Communication - Clearly and effectively exchange information ideas facts and perspectives with persons inside and outside of an organization. The student worker will communicate with ELGT staff to reach task completion and support the goals of the team. This will be done using a variety of communication methods. The student worker interacts on a daily basis with program participants from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. The English Language and Global Training student worker will assist with a variety of office-related duties in support of the administrative needs of the department. The student worker will assist the ELGT staff and teachers in supporting the English as Second Language ( ESL ) students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : -Assist with and at new student orientation including preliminary preparations and checking in of students. -Assist the ELGT staff with events programming inclusive of marketing -Provide peer guidance and support to new ESL students as they adjust to the new environment -Schedule appointments answer phone calls greet visitors and answer basic inquiries at the front desk as needed -Scan and file confidential international student documents utilizing Image Now software -Run errands/make deliveries and/or pick-ups from other campus departments -Support the development of the ELGT publications; assist with photos ideas or submission of articles -Manage the bulletin board displays as needed CONTACT WITH OTHERS : -The student worker has frequent interaction with international students as well as with staff from other Gannon departments; visitors to the Office of English Language and Global Training or other entities via telephone or in-person office visits.
Physical Demands
Work may require occasionally lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects; stand or walk for brief periods; bend and stoop; finger dexterity; eye/hand coordination; ability to see small detail and within arms reach; hear person to person and telephonic conversation.
Required Qualifications
Current Gannon University student. Cognitive: English language reading comprehension skills to understand written instructions article research or other documentation related to job duties; mathematical skills to perform basic calculations; English language oral listening and written communication skills for routine exchange of information with supervisors coworkers other personnel and international students who may be difficult to understand or have limited English proficiency; ability to carry out detailed written oral instructions; compose brief correspondence; coordinate tasks; evaluate and make decisions regarding independent courses of action. Technical Skill in using computers to enter and retrieve data; ability to learn ImageNow functions and basic knowledge of Microsoft programs including Outlook Word and Publisher; ability to type-word-process with speed and accuracy; operate office equipment including computer scanner copy machine and telephone. General: Must have dedication patience maturity and positive demeanor in fast-paced office environment; ability to meet deadlines; punctuality and commitment to maintaining established work hours; ability to enter hours worked in timely and efficient manner: must maintain regular communication with Director if unable to adhere to established work hours and notify of an absence or necessary change in schedule; ability to maintain confidentiality when working with official student documents or issues discussed in the ELGT office.
Preferred Qualifications
Desire and ability to work with international students who have varied degrees of English language proficiency.
