You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Iowa State University Polymer and Food Protection Consortium is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II to join a team conducting specialized research in packaging recycling sustainability contamination in packaging and microplastics. This position will help maintain laboratory facilities prepare research samples and troubleshoot and fix plastics processing equipment.
The position offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful industry-relevant research while working as part of a collaborative team-based environment.
The Iowa State Polymer and Food Protection Consortium () serves industry through fundamental and applied research and maintains an active program of knowledge and technology transfer to industry partners. The Consortium is a leader in fundamental and industry-driven research education and training through the development of innovative materials processes and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain repair monitor and clean laboratory facilities equipment and grounds.
Track and manage inventory of supplies chemicals and equipment.
Operate a forklift and other equipment to move inventory.
Transport supplies and equipment as instructed.
Prepare and process samples for research experiments.
Operate laboratory equipment to produce and test samples.
Conduct routine research data collection and reporting in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Provide basic guidance and support to students working in the lab.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
This is a one year term position with opportunity for renewal.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of care and use of laboratory equipment.
Knowledge of principles of sanitation health hazards and the necessary precautionary measures.
Knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and equipment and supplies required.
Ability to use proper bending and lifting techniques.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to keep basic records and inventories.
Ability to use and care for tools in maintenance and repair work.
Ability to prepare simple chemical solutions according to instructions.
