Job Summary:The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.
Additional Department Summary:The Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alabama is looking for a highly driven Postdoctoral Research Scholar to join the lab. This group focuses on developing advanced surface engineering techniques particularly laser-based methods and conducting experiments to deepen our understanding of the microstructure-property-process relationship.
The chosen candidate will collaborate closely with the labs principal investigator Dr. Keivan Davami contributing to ongoing projects rather than focusing on a singular research area. This role offers a comprehensive career development opportunity involving engagement in various research projects student advising teaching and proposal writingideal for those aiming for academic careers.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering.
Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge:Experience with advanced microscopy techniques such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM) scanning electron microscopy (SEM) electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and nano/microindentation.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with in-situ mechanical property characterization is preferred.
